The network giveth and the network taketh away. FOX has cancelled their new Ancient Egypt dramatic series Hieroglyph. The project was given a straight-to-series order last October by the then-programming chief Kevin Reilly.
Hieroglyph had been scheduled for mid-season. One episode has been shot and several others have been scripted. The show stars John Rhys-Davies, Reece Ritchie, Kelsey Chow, Condola Rashad, Caroline Ford, and Antony Bunsee. EW reports that the writers were given the news of the cancellation earlier today.
Here’s the FOX show’s trailer:
What do you think? Were you looking forward to checking out this new show?
yes, i’m sad they did this
I was looking forward to something other than reality shows.
I was looking forward to it. There’s so few quality TV shows on air these days, with most shows pandering to the “dumb and dumber” crowd with the cheap quality “reality” shows. I shudder to think that America might actually be so dumbed down that audiences will settle for crappy fare such as Duck Dynasty and Honey Boo Boo or Dance Moms.
Hieroglyph sounded like a promising piece of entertainment and if done properly would have taken a large share of the audience eventually. The reason is that it is so different than the “reality” shows, cop shows, etc. that are continually done to death. This one would also be popular because it’s an escape from realities that we face every day in our private life as well as have to watch on TV. Fox: You blew it.
Thought it was going to be a great show. Too bad! Maybe another network could pick it up.
Hell YES, I was looking forward to this series! How very different it looked from everything else. When was the last time anyone saw anything about ancient Egypt? I couldn’t wait! What a shame to not even give it a chance. They’ll probably just replace it with another cheap piece of $#@* reality show.
“Set in Ancient Egypt” is a hell of alot different to “about Ancient Egypt”.
It didn’t sound promising, so perhaps FOX cut their losses early.
To be fair, the trailer looks a bit rubbish.
Some unnecessary tittilation, as is the current trend (thanks HBO), rubbish mystisism, half baked political “intrigue” and what looks like vampires.
Just a note for TV execs – “intrigue” is NOT making everyone untrustworthy, self serving Aholes, that’s called a lazy way to have all your actors on a short lease because you can always off them.
Actually it sounds interesting but I’m so tired of Brits, etc. on all of our shows. What the heck is wrong w/putting American Actors on all of our shows and just using others once in a while? How many of our actors get work in other countries on a regular basis?
Keep the work here…without having to try to understand all the different accents!!
Great. Now maybe they can reconsider bringing back Rake. Fox has already wasted enough money. Bring RAKE back and stick to one night and one time.
