Jeopardy may soon see the exit of Alex Trebek. The show host was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in March, and a special will focus the series and its host later this week. Trebek has been the host of the popular game show since 1984.
TV Insider shared comments made by Trebek to ABC News. Trebek knows he may soon need to say good-bye to the series and its fans. He said the following:
“It’ll be a significant moment for me. But I’ve kind of, in my mind, rehearsed it already, and what I would do on that day is tell the director, ‘Time the show down to leave me 30 seconds at the end. That’s all I want.’ And I will say my goodbyes and I will tell people, ‘Don’t ask me who’s going to replace me because I have no say whatsoever. But I’m sure that if you give them the same love and attention and respect that you have shown me… then they will be a success and the show will continue being a success. And until we meet again, God bless you and goodbye.”
As for his health, Trebek admitted he is looking into new treatments after chemotherapy did not work for him. He said the following:
“We may try a new protocol… a different chemo or something in the trial stage that is not chemotherapy. I don’t mind experimenting. I’ve got nothing to lose, so let’s go for it.”
For now, fans of the series can still see Alex Trebek as host of the series.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Jeopardy? Will you continue to watch the series if a new host is introduced for the game show?

Yes, we will continue to watch Jeopardy to honor the man who brought class and dignity to the show. As he says, give the newcomer a chance as we gave him. Peace to you and your family, Mr Trebek. God bless you and be your guide.
I will always watch Jeopardy! but will miss Alex’s class, gentle humor & obvious grateful delight in his work. I pray a clinical trial will work for him. But if that is not to be, I pray his final days be full of the love of family and fans and no pain. May God bless him & his family at this difficult part of their journey.
I am positive Alex wants us to keep watching. Jeopardy is, and always will be a huge part of his legacy. We have had so many warm and memorable times over the years, watching the show as a family. Last few years it has just been my husband and me. There are so few other quality things in life where we have daily set aside literally thousands of half hours to be together and just enjoy! Alex, you are a gem … a real treasure. Thanks for giving us that ambiance together for so many years. Its been quality time!… Read more »
