Last November, NBC-Universal announced that Law & Order: Criminal Intent wasn’t cancelled but would be returning for just an eight episode final season. While the news that the show was coming to an end was disappointing, many were very happy to hear that beloved characters Detectives Robert Goren (Vincent D’Onofrio) and Alex Eames (Kathryn Erbe) were returning.
Season 10 of Law & Order: Criminal Intent debuted this week and the ratings were very positive. The premiere registered the show’s second-largest total audience (5.1 million) since the series moved to USA. It was also up by 21-35% in the demos and up 43% in total viewers when compared to the season nine premiere.
With such positive numbers, could there be an 11th season after all? In a recent conference call, executive producer Dick Wolf told reporters that he hoped, “enough fans will come out so the powers that be reconsider their decision.”
In an interview with the Futon Critic’s Jim Halterman, executive producer Chris Brancato noted that, “I think we all probably know that Dick Wolf never says never… He cares so deeply and he is engaged in the show in a way that you might not expect somebody who is so successful and been doing it for so long. He loves it! This is his baby, of sorts. Yeah, I think if viewers are enthused about Vincent and Katie coming back I don’t see why it has to be the final season.”
What do you think? Would you like to see the TV series continue for an eleventh season? Would it have to include D’Onofrio and Erbe?

PLEEEEEEASE don’t let it die. D’Onofrio virtually created the series. His Goren displays the same kind of emotional intelligence about criminals that brilliant D’Onofrio himself has about the characters he plays, and even with reruns my husband and I end up replaying almost every scene to notice new things in D’Onofrio’s performances. So yes, when the show is holding Vincent’s interest, nobody does it better. But when he got bored and turned Goren into one of his patented grotesques, well, yuk; it was as though Bobbie had dementia. I thought Goldblum was excellent too, giving the show his own smart… Read more »
Gimme more, gimme more, gimme more, more, more – D’Onofrio and Erbe, that is.
Yes I would want Criminal Intent back. Especially with Vincent and Erbe. My wife and I love the show and would enjoy its return.
What a treat to watch the two originals! Such as they, this is what makes TV worth owning.
And how professionally they pick up right where they left off in relationship to one another.
Meu desejo é que sim, temporadas 11, 12, 13… Mas isso vai depender dos fãs americanos ( sou brasileira) por isso mexam seus traseiros gordos e mantenham a audiência,Ok?
I love the show BUT ONLY with D’Onofrio and Erbe!!! Don’t know why they EVER changed it up and started switching characters in the first place. Saffron Burrows was so totally unbelievable as a detective plus Jeff Goldblum wasn’t all that great either!! Chris Noth’s character was at least one we had already grown to love on the original franchise but that to was not a direction I wanted this show to go. However, Kathryn Erbe & Vincent D’Onofrio was SO GREAT & had been doing such a wonderful job–no one could EVER replace Vincent he is so very talented… Read more »
Thank God Gorham and Eames are back! My favorite show when with these characters. You can’t beat them! Always liked Jeff Goldbloom but he pales in in comparison to Vincent D’Onofrio in this series. Please keep it going!!!!!!!
The decline in popularity began when they introduced the alternate episode format with Goren and Eames only appearing in every other episode. Noth was a terrible choice for the show and I believe greatly responsible for it’s decline. The reason people liked Criminal Intent was the quirky methods and behaviors of Goren and the superb performances of Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe and their magnificent (non sexual) on screen chemistry. If the show is to be returned to it’s former glory and success then the original cast and format are needed.
I only watched this show when Jeff Goldblum was on it. I couldn’t stand it before that point and I can’t stand it now… it’s just so incredibly boring without Jeff Goldblum and I’d like nothing better than to forget the 30 mins or so of the May 1st episode I did watch. But I can’t because it was indelibly bad. I don’t know why it’d be so different — I mean, it’s the same show and all, but the characters? Yeesh. So I think I get why fans of Goren and Eames and Co. didn’t like the revamp with… Read more »
When Goren and Eames left, some of the show’s oomph went with it. Let it continue IF Goren and Eames continue. I mean really, could you find any other duo that would be as good as them?
The fans were always there until they opted to replace the main characters.
When you replace Vincent D’ Onofrio with Jeff Goldblum, what do you think is going to happen??? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Love this series don’t stop love Gorman andEames please bring back Jeff Goldblum too .
I’d like to see it continue as long as the quality is still there.
Let Goren & Eames Live!
yes and definately with the original characters…
Of all of the shows in the L&O universe, Criminal Intent is my favorite. I am a big fan of Vincent D’Onofrio and his work on this series in exceptional. I hope that USA/NBC will give us at least another season of Criminal Intent.
Yes I would like there to be an 11th season. But, call me crazy, but maybe they should extend this current season first and see how the numbers are. And I would love those two to be there as well. But we’ll see.
Yes and yes!
