While most other shows were down in the ratings year-to-year, Law & Order: SVU was up last season. Will that trend continue this season or will the numbers fall. How long can this NBC crime drama continue to be a ratings success? Could it surpass the original Law && Order? Cancel or renew for a 17th season? We’ll see.
Law & Order: SVU follows an elite squad of detectives who investigate sexually based crimes in New York City. This season, the cast includes Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Danny Pino, and Raul Esparza.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
2/5 update: NBC has renewed this series for a 17th season for 2015-16. Details here.
Final season averages: 1.62 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.31 million total viewers.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Due to a Nielsen glitch, some of the early ratings of the 2014-15 season were revised a few weeks later.
For comparisons: The 15th season of Law & Order: SVU averaged a 1.8 rating in the demo and 6.70 million viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the SVU TV series? Would you like to see it cancelled or renewed for 17th season?
I love this show, it’s always been my favorite, I love how they change things up with the characters and add new ones on the show but like alex cabbot I would like to see det stabler come back on the show…it would be great to have a reunion episode
Last season was probably the best season for SVU, but while some characters are being developed, others are being left far in the background. We just found out that Finn had a home two seasons ago, and Ice-T has not had a meaningful episode since season 8. The Darius Parker saga needs to be finished.
Renew for season 17!
I LOVE Love this show! I love the characters. They work great together. Its one of the few shows I watch, keep the show going and going. Love Nick’s character and Olivia is super.
I DEFINITELY agree with Courtney. In my opinion unlike “Law & Order, SVU”, so many shows fail to develop characters, and those remain shallow as a wading pool. Also, in my opinion, Mariska Hargitay is the best & most stunning actress on TV…ever!!
I want it to keep going. I love my SVU fix and considering it’s the last Law and Order still standing (I’m still devastated no more Bobby) I think it’s one of the best cop dramas still on TV. I like the way that we have got to see the characters and learn more about their past. Don’t get me wrong do I miss Stabler HECK YA I DO!! I still have hope that when the does come to a end we will see Elliot one last time. But I’m not ready for an end so PLEASE keep it going.… Read more »
It sucks. I miss Elliott and what his character brought to the show. It was a great show with the old cast.
I agree
SVU was always second-fiddle to the original Criminal Intent, for me anyway.
Based on the ridiculous publicity shot at the top of this page, I would say that the show hasn’t a leg to stand on.
As much as I am a HUGE fan of all Law and Order series, SVU just hasn’t been the same for couple of years. I watch it with hopes that something will change but it is the same “rape happened, didn’t happen” every time. Sad. Hate to say it but it’s time for it to either go or bring back some of the original flavor 🙁
The best show on television. I am a senior citizen and have been with the show since it started. This show has helped me deal with issues I had happen to me as I was growing up. Love the addition of Raul Esparza to the show-he is awesome!!
The show is fantastic. I would love to see Sgt. Benson and ADA Barba matched up. They have great chemistry. Also for Amanda & Amaro to pair up they also have great chemistry.
I love Raul too! I love watching him get fired up and go kick butt
I hope to continue for seasons 17 and 18 I guess it’s a good number for the show. It does not really bother me the stories of Benson’s foster baby (At least not if they ‘are short) I’m glad BENSIDY finished and I think this is really what Liv wants, so … As for Amaro, I like, and i do not see it as a burden, I think the last three seasons were great and compensate on the disaster That was the 10-11 season, I mean They Were Terrible and while season 12 did pretty well, I think the show… Read more »
Still chugging along after 15 years, although it looks as though Mr. Wolf is beginning to wind up the series when giving Hargarty’s character a child, but is a great step in keeping with how Mariska Hargaty seems to be living her life. However, please remember that too much “family,” in the same manner as they did with Stabler’s took away 15 minutes of story from the program, and was just plain annoying. Do not like newest addition to the show — he reminds me of those (real) police officers that the feds bring from out of town so that… Read more »
It would be really really nice.
Too much personal life, don’t want to see Olivia life with her baby just too much. I whether see them fight crime.
Oh! I’ve been madly in love with Mariska for years. Since I don’t suppose there’s any way we could run off together, I’ll just be content with what I consider the best show on TV.
I know right?
I miss the original L&O and L&O Criminal Intent. I never cared for this franchise though. It had to do with the two main stars, I never cared for them.
This show is fantastic. The only person they should get rid of is Dectective Amaro. He is to much of a rambo and very annoying. He is no detective Stabler. They should try and get Chris Meloni back.
You’re lucky that Mr. Wolf did not kill Stabler’s character off, as he generally tends to do when actors try to hold him up for money, which is what Mr. Meloni attempted to do.
I love the show. Hope it will be renewed again. Really am liking showing more of their personal lives and interactions!
