Is Elliot Stable returning to Law & Order: SVU? TVLine reports Chris Meloni may return for the NBC TV show’s upcoming 21st season.
Meloni played Detective Elliot Stabler on the crime drama from seasons one through 12. The series currently stars Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino, and Philip Winchester.
Although Meloni hasn’t announced return to Law & Order: SVU, showrunner Warren Leight says he’s hopeful the former star will reprise his role in the future:
Look: I assume that if some year, some decade, couple decades from now, we get to the last SVU, [Meloni] would have to come back before we do the last episode or before the show signs off.
It would be tricky, because it’s now been eight years since the characters were seen together. So how’d they get in touch? We haven’t seen it. Where has he been? How do you explain that? There are storytelling challenges to it.”
Season 21 of Law & Order: SVU premieres on NBC on September 26th at 10 p.m. ET/PT. ‘

Nooo….he never fitted into SVU …was never a sympathetic character…was if viewers remember, often suspended for his methods – and it was a relief to see him go. Don’t bring him back for ‘old time’s sake’…it wouldn’t work…! The present cast fit together really well. If ANYONE should be brought back…it’s Munch !
I would love to see Stabler back. He and Olivia are attached at the hip. Great partners. Stabler characters takes it to a different level. I been watching this show for years and enjoy the marathon of repeats every chance I get.PLEASR BRING HIM BACK.He is truly missed.
SVU is definitely NOT the same without Detective Stabler. Would be so great to have him back !! LONG TIME LAW & ORDER FAMILY HERE !!
yes I would love to see him back on the show. I have watched the show for years ,I still watch the re runs with them. I feel the show would last another 21 if they would put him back on that’s if they would do it for that long. but love the show then and now great job.
Would love to have Elliott back. I personally think that had his character heard anything about Olivia getting kidnapped by that creep, he would have gone all vigilante
I would love for him to come back! But he said himself there is “zero chance” of that happening.. At least as of last year.. Lets hope he changes his mind! It would be one epic finale!

You better believe I want Chris Meloni (Eliot Stabler) to return, he & Olivia need to get together & Eliot has some explaining to do, to just disappear with no explanation to his partner & close friend was just wrong!
The one thing that I can’t forget is when Olivia told her second partner Nick that she grew more than she ever could with him than she ever could with her “former partner”. Maybe El felt exactly same way. That’s why he didn’t get in contact with her during the time being gone from the force.
