Perhaps they should have called it The Quick and the Dead. The The Living and the Dead TV show has been cancelled by The BBC. The first and only season of the spooky supernatural series is slated to premiere on BBC America sometime this fall. In UK, Ashley Pharoah’s six-episode drama aired on BBC One between June 28 and August 2, 2016. The British network has confirmed The Living and the Dead TV series will not be renewed for a second season, Digital Spy reports.
The Living and the Dead stars Colin Morgan and Charlotte Spencer as newlyweds Nathan and Charlotte Appleby, and Nicholas Woodeson as Reverend Matthew Denning. The cast also includes: Malcolm Storry, Kerrie Hayes, Tallulah Rose Haddon, Joel Gillman, Elizabeth Berrington, Chloe Pirrie, Amber Fernée, Marianne Oldham, Pooky Quesnel, Ben Fox, Sarah Counsell, and David Oakes.

When his mother dies, Nathan Appleby and wife Charlotte return to the family estate in an attempt to revitalize the farm that is the lifeblood of the local community. The BBC says when Harriet (Tallulah Rose Haddon), “… a vulnerable teenage girl is brought to Nathan, seemingly possessed by a terrifying spirit, he cannot leave her to suffer.” Here is more from The BBC:

I’m so bummed!! I really liked this show! I was seriously hoping season two would be soon so I could see why nathen killed his wife only to find out it’s been cancelled! I think it would of done great in the states as that’s where I’m from. But too bad what a let down good show then plug pulled
I came here to see why there was only one season of this show before I started watching it and decided to skim the comments to see if there was more info on the WHY of the cancellation. Very compelling series with a great twist ending to Season 1 and strong cliffhanger to Season 2. Too bad it was cancelled. I really enjoyed it. I was very disappointed when I read it was cancelled. I hope Netflix decides to produce a Season 2.

i watched all 6 episodes. such a beautiful show– very emotional and acting was wonderful. this show is so much better than many shows that get renewed. i feel it was not given a chance to develop a following – i am disappointed .

Well was going to purchase this show on amazon but seeing that it is cancelled will skip it…why they keep trash like the Arrow and the (new) X-Files on TV is beyond me and then cancel sterling shows like this time after time. Horrible. BBC you should be ashamed.

This is AWFUL to hear that they have cancelled this AMAZING series!!! How could they be so stupid?! Why do we need more and more new series when some are so amazing and deserve to come back? This was absolute perfection. Can’t they see success when it’s right in front of their eyes? BBC has done this many times- to many a fan’s outrage. Always out with the great and in with the new. Has it occurred to them that we don’t want the next new thing???
I am from Australia and have just finished watching this spine chilling series. The acting and story line was fantastic. I loved it and was looking forward to a second season. I am most disappointed that there will not be a season 2.
Please renew the Living and the Dead. It was hauntingly beautiful. It would be a shame not to explore the story further. Why is it that the truly cerebral shows get cancelled early?
I love Colin Morgan, and was happy to see him play a grown up character. I am disappointed to see the show go; I really enjoyed the plot. I was really looking forward to season 2, what a bummer!!
Honestly… I adored Colin Martin from Merlin. I can’t wait to see him in The Rising! This role was not a full character for him. I feel that the writers seemed to be holding him back a bit. No disrespect to the writers or Colin. I just think this was not a good fit.
