A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
Definitely keep this show. Lucifer is great, funny and entertaining. For those groups that want it cancelled, all they have to do is change the channel
Keep Lucifer! It’s a great show. People need to get over their problems. If they don’t like shows on tv, they can change or block the channels. It’s a very funny show and is also showing that Lucifer can change. Don’t cancel it!!!
I LOVE the show. it’s funny and interesting. I’d definitely keep it.
Keep it! I like it
Keep it. I love this show.
In my opinion Lucifer is really a great and entertaining show. Please do not chancel this innovative and indvidual plot, just because of people who doesn’t have any sense of “black humor”.
Keep it .. It’s hilarious!
Please don’t cancel Lucifer, it is one of the best shows on tv. It can be viewed at different levels, as simply a light-hearted entertainment, or a much deeper thought-provoking moral drama,
I hope they keep it around. It’s a great show – well written, good characters, funny where it should be, touching when it needs to be. Lucifer himself is brilliant to watch, and the actor’s portrayal of his growth, and confusion at that growth, is amazing.
Lucifer is my feel good tv show. It’s my pick me up for my down days.
Lucifer is 100% about the struggle we all feel, face, and deal with every single day. The dream of being a single authority on the best choice is a complete inaccuracy. Sometimes the plan is not a good one. Free will can take us all to a better choice. Lucifer craddleing a preist as he takes his last breath was just heart beating, mind bending, drama. Lucifer feeling someone must pay for the death of his “:FRIEND” was pure action and a heart that now beats in his chest hurts too. He has comedy, he has jokes, he has real… Read more »
Oh PLEASE don’t cancel this show…I love it! I will admit I wasn’t hooked on the first episode maybe I was just overly tired at the time. But now I love it, can’t wait for Monday night to roll around just to watch it. The writers are brilliant, it is funny, entertaining, exciting and the characters are so believable. I was born and raised Catholic and I do not find it offensive in any way…also it is refreshing to have a new TV series that is NOT based on another comic book series. Really looking forward to many more seasons… Read more »
Actually Sally, Lucifer is from a popular comic book series of the same name.
Keep it. Great show
Keep it. Samael was known as God’s “poison angel”, one of God’s angels of death, and his function was the Adversary, per God’s mandate. Some poet liked the name Lucifer better, although he was a minor angel in the choirs, which is a minor faux past in the larger story, namely redemption.
I love watching Lucifer and I am a God loving and church going individual. I think this show deals with the issues that we all deal with on a day to day basis but because they are day to day we tend to ignore them but with Lucifer, it is all new and so we can catch a glimpse of our own state of being removed from God’s presence in Lucifer’s struggle with his mortality after so many years not feeling anything. Those who want Lucifer canceled need to ask themselves is it because it is about the devil or… Read more »
