A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
Love the show!! Exploring humanity through the eyes of an angel/devil. That’s good television!
BTW- remind FOX that ‘Person of Interest’ had bad ratings initially until people figured it out…it takes a while for heaven’s sake (no pun intended!)….
KEEP! I really had some original concerns about watching a show about ‘satin’…but the last several episodes pose some very compelling theological questions and thoughts. Additionally, the actual story line is fascinating, well done, and the murder-suspense component is VERY well done. I think the network should try to get more ‘word’ on the street that it is an enjoyable and often times, a funny show. But there are some interesting undertones…the actors do an outstanding job…please don’t cancel. I think the interplay of ‘the devil’ and hell can make for some intriguing writing challenges!
I enjoy this show. Poses interesting theological questions. Great acting. Interesting plots. Entertaining.
The writers are imaginative and Ellis portrays the devil with the arrogance that one assumes such a being would have. Slowly, throughout the episodes we see Lucifer becoming more human. I hope that FOX will continue this series for at least another year.
RENEW! I am a long time fan of the comics, so I was curious about the show. My expectations weren’t great, and it is very different than the comics, but that’s okay! Lucifer is a compelling show and can stand all on its own. It just needs its chance!! Please renew for second season!
I love the show, very different and entertaining
My wife and I think “Lucifer” on Fox is THE BEST, most entertaining TV show!
We have looked forward to Monday nights for each new episode!! We think that the screen writing, dialogue and running plots of the show border on phenomenal!!! Fox, please renew “Lucifer” for at least one (1) more season.
I LOVE THIS SHOW!! I wasn’t so sure about it initially, but I really do enjoy how his humanity, heart and soul evolves with each new episode. The writers are awesome!!
Love Lucifer. It’s a GREAT show and my favorite
Love the show & cast. It’s the new must see tv on fox. It deserves a season 2 & more. The cast is great in which makes the stories compelling each week. If I were Fox Execs, I’d renew the show & listen to the fans that really know & who watch the show. Lucifer is a hit.
I love this show… keep it.. the writing is great and it is so funny.. I get some great laughs at the His comments.. It is the joy of Monday evening.
I really enjoy this show. Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and Chloe (Lauren German) have great chemistry. Lucifer and Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) do too. I love the humor and the sarcastic wit. I’m tired of shows that I like getting cancelled. It makes me not want to take a chance on new shows anymore. I’ll just cancel my DISH subscription and watch established series on Netflix from now on.
Love Lucifer! It’s too bad the religious groups can’t see or enjoy the humor in it.
We totally enjoy it, & Tom Ellis does an incredible job with his character.
Please renew it!
Keep the show, if you don’t like the show then don’t watch it.
Why take the show off just because others don’t like it. Change the dam station then!
