A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
Keep it my hubby and I really enjoy and are entertained by Lucifer.
I love it and hope it’ll stay–with sharp writing and plots. Love the tongue in cheek humor and Lucifer’s childish egocentric sensitivity. His brother is too harsh. Love the philosophic view that people cause their own bad, not an external force.
Keep the show!! Sat thru 9 ahows ondemand and totally hooked!
love the show. hope to see a second season!
love the series…getting better every week
One of the best new shows…a fresh take on the devil…the cast is just right…the easy-going nature of the main character is a delight…love to catch the quick Biblical references…love the innocent remarks, good writing…PLEASE give this a season 2 for us to follow.
Please, Please, PLEASE KEEP LUCIFER! It is one of the best shows on TV. The play of good and evil, the examination of father/son relationships is the most intriguing I’ve ever experienced.
I absolutely adore this show! People that are religious that have not seen it really need to give it a chance. They tie everything together very well and LOVE LOVE LOVE Tom Ellis!
PLEASE KEEP LUCIFER!!! Fun break from to many other boring shows. He’s so hot!!##
Really love this show. It is funny and serious. A lot of it is tongue-in-cheek. People don’t have to watch it if they feel offended. Please, please renew this show!
I Love Lucifer!!! Please keep it going!!!
Lucifer is one of the best shows I’ve ever seen!! We’re eagerly waiting for Season 2! Great writing, wonderful acting, interesting plot. I look forward to it every week and have recorded every episode, which I’ll be watching again and again! Tom Ellis is fun and sexy.
Please keep it – it makes me smile and all of the characters have special little quirks that make it fun to get to know them
I am LOVING this different take on the devil. Please don’t let people ruin our religious freedom by using theirs. Keep this show going! It’s fascinating and so original for people with open minds.
I love the show. The detective side with the biblical twist is great. Keep it running
