Madam Secretary just wrapped its fifth season, but will there be a sixth? Recently, executive producers Barbara Hall and Lori McCreary spoke with Deadline about the future of the CBS TV show.
The political drama stars Téa Leoni as U.S. Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord, a former CIA analyst who battles office politics while driving diplomacy and negotiating global deals. The cast also includes Tim Daly, Sara Ramirez, Željko Ivanek, Keith Carradine, Sebastian Arcelus, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Kathrine Herzer, Wallis Currie-Wood, and Evan Roe.
In the interview, Hall said she hopes season five isn’t the end for Madam Secretary. CBS has not yet announced a season six renewal:
Well you know I think that it would be bittersweet but I think everybody wants to see this happen. I know her fans want to see this happen and, of course, we want to go on this journey so hopefully, we’ll get the opportunity to do that.”
And what would happen in season six if the series is renewed? Hall says:
I would really like to have a parallel primary race for a while alongside the one that’s happening in the real world and because when we had our election year running alongside the election year and I find that it’s interesting to be able to draft on the political vocabulary that people have because of what’s happening and so that would be a fun challenge to have our … at least part of the primary running along the actual primary and then probably celebrate times so we can get to an election but that’s part of what I think season six would be about and I think it would be fun.”
What do you think? Do you watch Madam Secretary? Do you want a sixth season?
One of the best shows on television! Please renew!
I would enjoy several more seasons but since she has resigned and declared for the Presidential race, I feel that was the series end unless an event brings her back as Secretary of State or the show is renamed “Madam President.”
Great show! Please keep it going.
Yes, please renew this excellent show!
I love this show!!!
I’d love to see a run, and a win. The show could rebrand as madame president.
I LOVE this show. It’s one of the few my husband and I make a point of watching every week and look forward to it. The writing is very clever and current. All the actors are incredible. I love the counterpoint of the political life and challenges vs the personal life with family. That’s what distinguishes this program. PLEASE RENEW IT and let us see Elizabeth run for President!!
I love Madam Secretary. It’s intelligent and beautifully performed. In the ball park of West Wing. A show written for adults. CBS needs more programs of this caliber. Please renew for at least one more season. This is the White House that we wish America had now. To write an opponent for Tea in a presidential run is interesting.
YESSSSSSS! LOVE WATCHING THE SHOW WITH MY FAMILY. It helps with understanding actual politics(some what),& the language they use. How the White House may run too. I look foreard to watching it with my husband every Sunday nite.
Please, please continue this show! It is one of the most intelligent political shows on TV and deserves to be seen.
please renew Madamn Secretary. Love this show don’t miss it
Definitely need it Renewed!!!
Yes I am a big fan of Madam Secretary! Am looking forward to a season 6 and more.
Madame Secretary is my favorite TV Show! I’ll be beyond disappointed if it’s cancelled!!!
It would be such a disappointment if Elizabeth didn’t get the opportunity to campaign for President of the United States after playing such a vital role in shaping policy for the past five seasons. Please CBS, renew this show so that we fans can continue to follow the excellent actors and stories on Madam Secretary!
I agree. Problem is: time and placement of show.
I think Sunday nights at the time it is now works well.
Best show on TV. Amazing how they lift the current headlines and do the show on them!
