TV show description:
This dramatic series revolves around Elizabeth McCord (Tèa Leoni), a newly appointed Secretary of State. She’s a shrewd and determined woman who drives international diplomacy, battles office politics and circumvents protocol as she negotiates global and domestic issues — both at the White House and at home.
A college professor and a brilliant former CIA analyst who left the agency for ethical reasons, Elizabeth returns to public life at the request of the President — following the suspicious death of her predecessor.
President Conrad Dalton (Keith Carradine) values her apolitical leanings, her deep knowledge of the Middle East, and her flair for languages. He also appreciates her ability to not just think outside the box, but to not even acknowledge there is a box.
McCord debates third world problems, finesses foreign dignitaries at work and does battle with the President’s combative Chief of Staff Russell Jackson (Željko Ivanek).
Elizabeth’s team includes her Chief of Staff Nadine Tolliver (Bebe Neuwirth), speechwriter Matt Mahoney (Geoffrey Arend), press coordinator Daisy Grant (Patina Miller), and her charming assistant Blake Moran (Erich Bergen).
In her personal life, she has a supportive husband, Henry (Tim Daly), and three children — Stephanie “Stevie” (Wallis Currie-Wood), Alison (Katherine Herzer), and Jason (Evan Roe).
Episode #120 — Leaving the Station
President Elizabeth McCord kicks off a new landmark political initiative with help from members of the World Cup Champion U.S. Women’s Soccer team, while Flo Avery (Cicely Tyson), who was born the day women were granted the right to vote, looks on. Opposing the initiative is Senator Amy Ross (Tyne Daley) from Ohio. Also, the McCords overcome last-minute obstacles to pull off a spectacular family celebration with a reunion of familiar faces, that includes a performance by Peter Frampton.
First aired: December 8, 2019.
What do you think? Do you like the Madam Secretary TV show? Do you think it should have ended or been renewed for a seventh season?
As a former “West Wing” junkie, am really enjoying this show. It’s smart and extremely well done. Hoping it sticks around for several more seasons.
How good to have a woman playing the Secretary of State in a quality tv series, even if it is inspired by Hillary Clinton.
What stinks is it hasn’t been aired in 5weeks at least, (and why? Is big brother such a good show it had to replace madame secretary mid season?) and it’s the first to go when an awards show is aired.
I smell something suspicious.
I have watched this show since inception. I love Tea Leoni and the strong figure she plays. Balancing family and career is never easy but I love how strong the marital relationship. TV loves to destroy the family unit. Thank you CBS for allowing them to be kind, caring and faithful to each other! We need more of that kind of example.
This is one of my favorite shows. DO NOT CANCELL!!!!
One my favorite shows. Mirrors current headline issues. Great cast. I’d like to see it continue for a few more seasons.
Love this show. The characters are so well-suited for their positions. Please bring more Seasons!
Love Madam Secretary — it’s thought-provoking and timely. Favorite show on Sunday Night!
One of my favorite shows. Wish it was in a better time slot. Missed several episodes because of overruns of the NFL. The story lines are interesting and a look inside of the workings of government are intriguing. Love it!
I love the themes taken from the evening news. Where is episode 13?
I love this show. I just wish it was on a better night and time slot. I believe it would make the ratings better. Sunday night a 9PM CST is late and has to compete with football which should not even continue to be aired due to the poor player behavior.
The last episode that I saw in Season 4 was #12, the one in which the president has a meltdown, and the cabinet has to act. Then the show hasn’t been airing for the following two weeks. Is that the season finale, or is there more to come in 2018?
love Madame Secretary
Tèa Leoni is an engaging Secretary of State. They portray her as having more influence than the President’s chief of staff Russell Jackson (Željko Ivanek). The writing, though sketchy at times, is usually on the mark. And, yes, a youngish woman with the experience Elizabeth McCord has is very much capable of being Secretary of State. A driving force in this series is the display of how a family must balance the drama of two youth in their teens struggling to discover themselves and a millenial daughter who winds up working in the White House on an internship with Jackson.… Read more »
I Love Madam Secetary, well written, I’m into the whole family. This seems real and not just a silly show. I watch and record every show so I can see it twice.
Please keep this going there is enough silly, thoughtless TV shows.
I look forward to this show every week. The cast is great, the stories relevant, and it would be a real loss to many of us. PLEASE keep it on the air. PS I’m tired of hearing Elizabeth stands for Hillary Clinton. She does not, and it’s more than clear she’s patriotic and thinks quite originally and doesn’t cater to anyone. She’s a fictional well-acted character.
