Everything old is new again. Revivals are still trending, and CBS does not want to be left behind, so it has brought back its Murphy Brown TV show for an 11th season. In this era of charges of “fake news” and the viral spread of “alternative facts,” the nation arguably needs Murphy, but will a big enough audience tune in to justify future installments? Will Murphy Brown be cancelled or renewed for season 12? Stay tuned. **Status update below.
A CBS sitcom revival, season 11 of Murphy Brown stars original cast members Candice Bergen, Grant Shaud, Faith Ford, and Joe Regalbuto, alongside Nik Dodani, Jake McDorman, Adan Rocha, and Tyne Daly. Amidst daily attacks on the press, Murphy Brown (Bergen) decides to forsake retirement for a new CNC morning show, Murphy in the Morning. She reunites the old FYI gang, Corky Sherwood (Ford), Frank Fontana (Regalbuto), and Miles Silverberg (Shaud) for her new endeavor, as well as social media director Pat Patel (Dodani). She’s determined to prioritize solid reporting over sensationalism. The team members still decompress at Phil’s bar, which is now run by his sister, Phyllis (Daly), with help from college student, Miguel (Rocha), a “Dreamer” from Mexico. Meanwhile, Murphy’s son, Avery (McDorman), is all grown up and following (perhaps, a bit too closely) in mom’s footsteps.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Murphy Brown TV series revival? Should it have been cancelled or renewed for as 12th season on CBS?
**5/10/2019 Status Update: Murphy Brown has been cancelled by CBS. Details here.
Love Murphy Brown revival. Actors may be older but topics are current. Interesting and fun satire. Let’s keep Murphy Brown going. There’s a lot worse in tv that has been renewed. Keep the political topics going. It’s important the younger generation has information to talk about.
Well it you call this a good way to voice people dislikes. Voting is real better. Not causing hate and lower are already standards. This is not news. But your right, because younger people don’t watcg news the think this news trustable.
Some people are waiting for season 2???? The ratings in the 18-49 demo is .8!!!!! A TV test pattern has more viewers than that! This show is “dead show walking”. It may not make it beyond the end of the year. Good riddance to garbage.
Agreed. Its not worth watching with all the twisted brainwashing it spews. i watched the first episode and was very disappointed on how it pushed it’s political agenda. cant wait for the google headlines to show CANCELLED. luckily, the ratings speak for themselves. nobody is watching this trash either. good riddance.
Can’t wait for season 2
I was a fan of the original series, but this reboot is absolutely painful to watch. Totally one-sided politics, every week is a challenge to see how man anti-Trump/anti Fox News jokes they can fit into 22 minutes. The only slightly redeeming feature is Avery, but if they had perhaps had the guts to make him more of a conservative the show would have had some balance and some depth. All I see is a preachy, screeching anti-Republican Rant. If I wanted that, I’d watch Colbert.
i see no different than the original. if it’s painful to watch it could be because it’s hard to watch what’s going on in the country right now.
I love the Murphy Brown reboot. Funny, clever and fun to watch
The show was tedious, unfunny and unoriginal. And really, why do we “need” Murphy Brown? Won’t last a full season.
I only watched part of the first one! Theres enough hate in the world will not waste my time! Hope it is cancelled quickly.
It’s sad that people take this type of political news seriously. Look at the late-night talk shows like Stephen Colbert. People actually think this guys right and you think it’s funny how people are entitled to her opinion, but the sad part is people don’t want to lose just watch what they want to watch it what do you want to believe and people watch Stephen Colbert give it to them. 50 years from now people are gonna laugh when you see people jumping on the bandwagon of the Stephen Colbert in Ludacris way of people expressing themselves in anger.… Read more »
Doo. Not sure what you were trying to say. Your writing was very disjointed and did not make any sense.
And your point is? Wow there are rules on this site about trolling in picking fights. And it seems like you’re doing both of them. If you don’t like what was written don’t bother. Did I hit a nerve with you guys well,? Its not intentional; it’s just the way it is people have the right to express themselves. Making fun of somebody’s writing doesn’t make any sense. Just means you have no other way of expressing yourself. If you like this kind of junk all the power to you. But don’t come here and insult people just because you… Read more »
My point is I don’t know what you were trying to say. If I don’t understand what you wrote, I can’t agree or disagree with you. Sorry if I hit a nerve, but communication is an important part of life.
Understand that people always don’t think alike. Too many remakes these days. People are mad and upset because networks it. Frankly speaking it’s that simple!
Take it off !!! We see enough of this garbage on our news.
I liked the 90’s Murphy Brown, but this renewal is missing the cohesiveness that made the 90’s show great and the supporting characters seems lost like window dressing. Presidents are always open to bashing and the current President deserves it, but what turns me off is that the bashing is constant, which is quite tedious and boring to watch. There are other things to do instead. To bad, there were plenty of other topics to focus and the writers so far have blown the opportunity
Baby boomer here… very disappointing, not into watching fake news. One episode was enough.
I was very excited when I heard MB was returning. But sadly after 5 minutes of the first episode, I realised that this was NOT the good old MB it was simply 22 minutes expressing someones political agenda to poke, prod and try and make fun of Donald Trump Its fails at every level as it comes across as petty and rather childish. I’m afraid this basically backs up what Trump has said all along, that, there are a lot of people in the media that put the own politics before anything else. Sadly because of this is certain, it… Read more »
I agree, Mr. LeBrock. I enjoyed the original show. But, after watching the first two episodes, I won’t waste my time again. The story line is lacking despite the actor’s performance. I found it sad to hear all the incessant political rhetoric.
Totally agree. I once loved this show, heck adored Murphy and wanted to be her but now just a political agenda. As dissapointed as I was in return of Will and Grace
Watched the first one. I will not watch the second one.
At least Will and Grace, besides being way to political, is funny sometimes. I don;t think I have cracked a smile once during a Murphy Brown episode. It’s horrible!
It’s not funny and I want a break from the onslaught of politics. Yank it.
It’s Miles Silverberg, not Silverman.
Thanks for spotting that.
I was underwhelmed by the premiere as it felt a bit too much like cheesy, badly edited reunion special. But I’m still excited that it’s back and am looking forward to it really finding itself over the next 12 episodes.
What a waste of time
What would you rather see instead?
Well how about better in the way new exciting content! Not this re rash of old and outdated theme. Too much to dream about?
