There’s a new Nancy Drew in town. At the winter TCA press tour, CBS revealed new details about their upcoming Nancy Drew series.
Based off the popular book series, the series adaptation will follow the title character as an adult.
Speaking at the press tour, CBS president Glenn Geller said the new Nancy Drew will be in her 30s, with a detective job at the NYPD. Geller also mentioned the character would “not [be] Caucasian,” saying “she is diverse, that is the way she is written.”
While the character has yet to be cast, Geller said, “I’d be open to any ethnicity.”
This will be the first TV adaptation of Nancy Drew in over 20 years.
The decision comes at a time when CBS is pushing more diversity on their network overall. Added Geller:
We have a lot of new series in development, both series targeted to have full African-American or Latino casts but also many leads that are being developed [as diverse]. We’re not casting color-blind, we’re casting color-conscious.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Nancy Drew books? Would you watch the TV series? Who do you think they should cast?
NO, I’m not a Nancy Drew fan, so I wouldn’t waste my time watching it. Bring back a great series like Longmire and watch your ratings climb.
They tried this with “Pollyanna” and it did not work. You cannot change the ethnicity of the character without changing the times and situation in which the writer wrote. Leave things as they were written. We don’t have to go back and change everything white to some other skin color.
How about pushing for something original and we don’t have to hear people like Blue Note complain…then if they still do we’ll know the real reason.
This is a loser from the start. Stop pushing PC bull shiz down our throats.
I understand somewhat, but I guess you hate seeing anyone who isn’t “fair skinned” They should create more original characters of color instead of “letting” them play these others characters. Just a slap to the face.
I totally agree w/BLUE NOTE…… Why change something that is perfectly OK? There are already plenty of series w/other ethnicities. and most of those have few to no white people in them. I’m all for sharing the screen, but let’s be fair EQUALLY. Plus there are no networks that are designed “just for whites” as for African Americans…&let’s not get into the competition shows, and other venues that are NEVER just for white people. You want to be fair? Then let’s be fair across the board.
