CBS has renewed their venerable drama NCIS for both season 14 and season 15. The network has also signed Mark Harmon to a new two-year contract.
Here’s the press release:
CBS RENEWS “NCIS,” THE #1 TELEVISION DRAMA SERIES IN THE U.S. AND WORLDWIDE, FOR TWO MORE SEASONS
“NCIS” STAR AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER MARK HARMON SIGNS NEW TWO-YEAR DEAL
CBS announced today that it has renewed NCIS, the #1 television drama series in the U.S. and worldwide, for two more seasons, and that series star and executive producer Mark Harmon has signed a new two-year deal.
“It’s extraordinary that in its 13th season and with over 300 episodes to its credit, NCIS continues to excel at such a high level on a global scale,” said Glenn Geller, President, CBS Entertainment. “It is testimony to an amazing cast, led on and off the screen by the exceptional Mark Harmon, for skillfully bringing this universally appealing team of heroes to life; and to Gary Glasberg and his writers for crafting compelling stories that feature NCIS’s signature blend of mystery, quirk, drama and comedy every single week.”
Currently in its 13th season, NCIS is a member of the exclusive 20 million viewer club. The drama is averaging 20.47 million viewers, up +4% from a year ago and on pace to finish the season as network television’s #1 drama for the seventh consecutive year. In key demographics, NCIS ranks in the top 10 among adults 25-54, averaging 4.6/13, and is in the top 15 in adults 18-49, averaging 3.1/10. Also, NCIS ranks in the top 10 among time-shifted programs, gaining nearly +4 million viewers with 7-day playback.
NCIS is also an international hit, licensed in more than 200 markets. For the past two years, it has been awarded the International Audience Award by Eurodata TV Worldwide and The Monte Carlo Television Festival for being “the most watched drama series in the world.” It is a top performing U.S. series in Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden and in the UK, among other countries.
NCIS premiered on CBS in 2003. During the 2009-2010 season, it became the #1 drama/scripted program on television, and has remained the #1 drama ever since.
What do you think? Do you like the NCIS TV series? Should season 15 be the end?
No need to cancel this one — it’s been great and continues to morph and evolve — the cast is always outstanding. It’s clean and has real ‘guts’ (especially Gibbs’s) every episode!
Ziva added a great spark,Ellie added some interesting research skills, and Abby is always great. Ducky is a great added bonus — always a character. I love the whole family at NCIS — I hope the additionof more ‘leads’doesn’t water down the core that has made the show – great!!
Love NCIS, Mark Harmon and the whole quirky cast! I’m sorry Michael Weatherly is leaving, but I’ve survived every cast change. Now, if Mark Harmon were not continuing, I would probably lose interest. Gibbs is the glue and the force behind the show and the team.
I love NCIS. It and Big Bang are my favorite shows. So glad it will be around
for years. If Tony is leaving, I would love to see more of the Coast Guard agent, Abigail Borin, on the show. Thanks for a great show, Mark Harmon.
NCIS is an awesome show and should continue after season 15!
In a real federal law enforcement agency, field agents transfer in and out of offices fairly frequently. It would be very unusual for any squad or team to remain intact for more than a very few years. The dynamic of the NCIS team has evolved with each cast change. The writers and producers have given us an amazing 13 seasons, and I am anxious to see what they will do for the next 2 (at least) seasons. Nothing in life stays the same: remember and honor what has passed, but embrace what is yet to come.
Wonderful show, I hope it will never end! Just wish Gibbs could regain his humor from the first seasons. Humor usually doesn’t fade just by growing older. 🙂
The magic’s been gone since the beginning of season 11, & now with Tony’s departure, just end it, sadly.
The magic is gone, sadly! End it…
I’m not sure I’ll watch w/out Tony. But if I do I hope they really go after the Terrorism aspect…. America needs to wake up… and soon!
I would like them to bring back Ziva!
I was going to say you should have mentioned NCIS pilot was in JAG.
Hint: CBS, It’s time to revive other series too! JAG. 🙂
NCIS continues to address relevant issues in a thoughtful and respectful manner, I.e. Terrorism , gays in the military..I believe it should continue
I have watched Gibbs and company from the original meeting on JAG through all the 13 seasons I have adjusted to the cast changes and will continue after Michael Weatherly leaves at the end of this 13th season I love the actor but the show is amazing. Yes happy for season 14 and 15 A truly amazing cast love them all
With Michael Weatherly gone after this season, don’t know if NCIS should end after 15 seasons and if it does, it may have the same number of years CSI and ER did.
Favourite news I’ve had in a while.
