NCIS will return to CBS tonight with the second half of its 13th season, and there are reports that one of the members of the main cast will leave at the end of this season.
In an interview with Vulture Hound Magazine, David McCallum spoke about the series and his character, but he also revealed that it is known to the members of the cast that one member of the cast is ready to leave the series at the end of this season. McCallum also revealed that fans might only see him on the series for one more season.
He said:
“We’re going to finish shooting this season at the end of April, and DiNozzo, played by Michael Weatherly, we’ve told people a long time ago, is leaving at the end of the season. So the writers have to decide what to do when one of the four members of the original cast leaves. When Michael leaves, there’ll just be three of us. I will go on doing Ducky for at least another year I believe, provided my health holds up. Things aren’t quite as easy at eighty two as they were at twenty eight! So I will go on as long as I can.”
NCIS is still the top series on network television. For season 13, the series has an average of 16.783 million viewers per episode. The series has successfully launched two spin-offs, and tonight’s return is a crossover with NCIS: New Orleans titled “Sister City.”
It is clear that NCIS is still a big hit for CBS, but does the fact that two main members of the cast are leaving the series this season and next mean that it is time for NCIS to come to an end? Could members of the cast move to one of the other NCIS series like CSI has done with Ted Danson and CSI: Cyber?
Check out a sneak peek from tonight’s crossover episode below. How long do you want NCIS to stay on the air? Tell us what you think.
Well we just saw the first episode for season 16-17. I’m not thrilled with the choice of replacement for Tony. I think they should have chosen a black actor like the one that left criminal minds, although that may have overshadowed McGee. I saw the opening credits and it seems these new actors are here to stay since they were in them. I hope that’s not the case, I may be just too used to the original cast. I know a lot of you loved the Ziva character especially the romantic plot with Tony. I was very unsure of the… Read more »
My husband and I love NCIS. We would like it if it was on from now on. Please don’t remove anymore characters. It will be very different without Tony and Ziva. I have watched the last show three times and still cry each time I watch it. I will watch it several more time. It is so sad and yet happy at the same time. Why can’t Tony have a daughter and stay at NCIS? We will also add a new show to our regulars, BULL.
I think that is a crying shame that they have destroyed one of the greatest series on tv. For those of us who are housebound or otherwise limited, the loss of a tv show we have enjoyed above all others for 13 years is a real blow and killing of a legend like Zia is as disgusting as it is callous.
For me, the show lost most of its appeal when the Ziva David character left the show. Before she joined the cast, I was an avid watcher, but her presence intensified my interest. I was so disappointed with her loss that I stopped watching faithfully. Her girl-next-door replacement is decent, but has no edge. With Michael Weatherly gone, unless they got someone phenomenal to take his place, I won’t be that interested. Also, I had hoped they would resolve the David/DiNozo (sp?) relationship into a permanent one. For all I know, despite the fact that De Pablo won’t be in… Read more »
NCIS is my favorite TV show. I was very upset when Ziva left and now with Tony leaving, it is unbearable. I can’t fathom losing any of my main characters, they are like family. It is heartbreaking. CBS has always been my favorite network (from MacGyver to JAG and now NCIS). I have watched all these shows. I watched as JAG ended and NCIS began. These three shows have been my favorite of all time. Please restore my characters and keep them on the air. I would continue to follow the shows and do whatever I can to help the… Read more »
Totally agree, but the actors have their own agenda. Read my own comment, which, I think reflects what you also feel.
NCIS is my favorite over the spin offs, which I don’t ever watch. I am sorry that it is ending. I wish it would go on even without DiNozzo…but I’d hate to have the characters killed off. No one can replace Gibbs.
JAG was my favorite show until NCIS came on. I have been watching the show from day one! Mark Harman is still a cutie! I was sad when Kate and Ziva left but Tony? Come on people, his character just flows with Gibbs, Abby and Magee. They are all awesome together! I can’t imagine the show w/o any of them. Even Ducky and Palmer. The show is a hit because you found the perfect actors and actresses to play each part. You asked how long the show should continue? Forever! But, replacing any othe the cast is going to be… Read more »
With that many fans – let’s hope that Michael Weatherly isn’t pulling a Rob Morrow. Still, it’s one of the most entertaining shows – maybe after season 15!?
Love NCIS, will continue to follow.
I love NCIS I hate Tony is leaving. When Ziva left I was ok. But I really feel like Tony plays a major role on NCIS . My favorite is Gibbs.
NCIS is my favorite show. Love all the characters. I did get tired of Ziva and the Israel episodes. Kate was mt least favorite. Grew to love Bishop. Tony made the show in my opinion. Gibbs was awesome. I’m very depressed Tony is leaving. Hope the show continues and they find a similar character funny, handsome actor to fill his shoes, big shoes to fill, I might add. I even watch all the reruns. I’ve seen every show hundreds of times. I’m heartbroken Tony is leaving. Tony, Sr. Is somewhat annoying in my opinion.
I loved the Israel episodes and also Tony, Sr. To each his own.
Nothing is forever. I hated to see Ziva leave, and now Tony. This is my favorite non-sitcom TV show of all time (I am 71 y/o). No offense intended towards anyway, but I do not watch either spin-off, and when THE original NCIS ends I will be quite sad.
Why end something that is on top. Take a deeo breathe and keep punching away NCIS. The wife anc kid got me hooked on NCIS in their 2nd season. Before that I hadnt watched it. And havent missed a show since. It is and will alwsys be the number one show ti tape on dvr.
When is it time to end NCIS? Never!
We absolutely love NCIS! Bring Ziva back! Hate to see Tony go, Tate Riggs would be amazing! I will continue to watch no matter what casting changes are made! I have become invested in the characters and storyline. I always hate it when the hour is over! My 13 year old daughter watches it with me, ever since she was born! And we watch NCIS New Orleans and NCIS LA!
