It’s time for San Antonio Memorial’s emergency room night shift staff to clock out. The Night Shift TV show has been cancelled after four seasons on NBC. The medical drama first premiered in of May of 2014. It ran as a summer series, except in season two, when it was a mid-season replacement.
Airing on the NBC television network, The Night Shift stars Robert Bailey Jr., Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, Brendan Fehr, Scott Wolf, Tanaya Beatty, and JR Lemon, with Mark Consuelos recurring in season four. The series centers on the quirky, yet extraordinary emergency room night shift at San Antonio Memorial, who’ll risk almost anything to save their patients.
The Night Shift: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of The Night Shift averaged a 0.66 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.96 million viewers. Compared to season three, it was down by 32% and down by 21%, respectively. The Night Shift did not stack up well against other NBC TV shows. Even among the Peacock Network’s summer series, it earned pretty low ratings, so the cancellation makes sense.
Here is more on The Night Shift cancellation, from NBC, via Deadline:
“We want to thank our amazing creators and executive producers, Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, for their dedication and stellar work; a cast and crew that were second to none; and the city of Albuquerque, N.M., which graciously opened its arms to us,” said Jennifer Salke, President of NBC Entertainment. “For four seasons The Night Shift gave audiences a window to heroic doctors, nurses and all-star medical workers who never hesitated to give their blood, sweat and time to help those most in need.”
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled or renewed The Night Shift TV series for a fifth season? Were you still watching it? Sound off, in the comments.
I’m so upset about this show being cancelled. It was anything and everything that someone could look for in an incredible tv show. It was so engaging and it ended without being able to have had everyone’s story come to an end – they abandoned it which is horrible. This show was amazing and had brilliant actors and great storylines that no other show will ever be able to live up to. It’s quite accurate aswell – most shows like this are always over dramatic or wrong when it comes to real life situations, this show however was so precise… Read more »
I’m really disappointed. It was one of the few summer shows worth watching, if not the only one. Why is 18-49 demographic so important? 50+ people stay home more, have more money, and are less likely to know how to record and skip commercials. Think, NBC, and reinstate Night Shift
Can not believe that the night shift is being cancelled, brilliant show, amazing cast and exciting story lines. Also high lighting some of the problems that hurt or injured military personal have to face on a daily basis. It really brings it home, yes its only a TV show, but it makes a strong point too. So come on NBC take notice of your viewers. Renew.
Sorry to see another great show fall to the side while sitcoms that don’t make any sense continue. We watched every show looking forward to the next. Hoping this series will return in the future!
I thought Night Shift was a great summer show and never missed an episode. It’s really too bad it’s not returning.
I’m sad to see yet another amazing show gone from television while they keep all these reality shows alive and well. My family and I watched this every week and never missed an episode although we had to PVR it. I don’t think networks take that into consideration when looking at ratings which sucks. It was a great summer fill in -although would have been better as a fall show- and it was well written and down to earth. I hope NBC reconsiders their decision and decide to bring it back next summer.
Sad to hear but very much predictable. Writes continue to thing that the public will except the characters get together then break up or get two close and carring then pull them apart. I was ready to stop watching the series because tired of the writers having have Jorden turn into someone who was willing to sleep with anyone after dropping TC
The networks wonder why their ratings are down…this is a perfect example. A great show, great cast, exciting stories and just when the characters are developing nicely they get cancelled. Hopefully Netflix or Amazon will pick them up. No longer any reason to watch network TV.
seriously why do they got to go and cancel the show it was and will always be one of the best shows out there. please bring it back or sell it to a different station please we need this show. IT IS OUR LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!
Another great show gone! Really disappointed because it was a great show!
My husband and I both looked forward to watching Night Shift. We are sad that it ended and hope NBC will reconsider.
Absolutely loved the show! So upset it’s ending
