It’s time for San Antonio Memorial’s emergency room night shift staff to clock out. The Night Shift TV show has been cancelled after four seasons on NBC. The medical drama first premiered in of May of 2014. It ran as a summer series, except in season two, when it was a mid-season replacement.
Airing on the NBC television network, The Night Shift stars Robert Bailey Jr., Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, Brendan Fehr, Scott Wolf, Tanaya Beatty, and JR Lemon, with Mark Consuelos recurring in season four. The series centers on the quirky, yet extraordinary emergency room night shift at San Antonio Memorial, who’ll risk almost anything to save their patients.
The Night Shift: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of The Night Shift averaged a 0.66 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.96 million viewers. Compared to season three, it was down by 32% and down by 21%, respectively. The Night Shift did not stack up well against other NBC TV shows. Even among the Peacock Network’s summer series, it earned pretty low ratings, so the cancellation makes sense.
Here is more on The Night Shift cancellation, from NBC, via Deadline:
“We want to thank our amazing creators and executive producers, Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, for their dedication and stellar work; a cast and crew that were second to none; and the city of Albuquerque, N.M., which graciously opened its arms to us,” said Jennifer Salke, President of NBC Entertainment. “For four seasons The Night Shift gave audiences a window to heroic doctors, nurses and all-star medical workers who never hesitated to give their blood, sweat and time to help those most in need.”
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled or renewed The Night Shift TV series for a fifth season? Were you still watching it? Sound off, in the comments.
Loved this series, really disappointed they are cancelling season 5!
please do not cancel the show. it is one of my favorites
NBC, PLEASE reconsider the cancellation of this series. While YES, the ratings may be down, did you happen to think that this may be due to ALL THE HURRICANES and FIRES that are currently going on. I AM SURE that had these not happened, that the ratings would be up there, where the Execs want the ratings to be. PLEASE RECONSIDER. With Grey’s Anatomy ending, we NEED MORE Medical shows, not LESS.
NBC made a very bad decision; medical dramas need to be continued to keep people up on medical advances, day to day situations and as all if the hype regarding the Affordabke Care Act multipke story lines are about to explide. With Grey’s Anatomy ending after this season, what nedical show will rise?
Grey’s Anatomy isn’t ending, and it won’t ever be considering how it’s ABC’s top-rated show. Where did you hear that nonsense?
I Happen To Love This Show I Really Don’t Want This Show To End
I’m so sad to see this show cancelled. I watched it from the beginning and always looked forward to the new season. It feels unfinished, especially with the cliffhangers relating to different characters. Really wish the producers and network would reconsider.
It was a great show. The last few episodes were weak but that was they didn’t know where to go with it. Were they going to have a new season or wrap it up. I hate to see it canceled
Perhaps if they had not let go or killed off all the show favorites season 4 would have fared better in the ratings… I mean 4-5 characters is a lot…
Its kind of sad how they left some stories hanging… like TC’s sister in law… and Mark Consuelos character…
Wish it wasn’t cancelled it doesn’t feel finished
I totally loved the show. looked forward to it every week mistake taking it away !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved the night shift!! Should’ve tried it on another night. Please reconsider….
Bring it back. It deserves to have a final season at least. Really enjoyed it.
Please bring it back. Great show
THIS WAS A GREAT SHOW. VERY ENTERTAINING AND DIFFERENT. YOU ALWAYS CANCEL THE GOOD SHOWS. BRING IT BACK…..
I’m very upset it has cancelled. It was a great show and so different. It was not another reality show. It was so worth watching. You always rate shows on younger crowds not taking shows that older actually like and enjoy. It was so funny at times but so enjoyable. I loved the cast. Plz bring it back.
