It’s time for San Antonio Memorial’s emergency room night shift staff to clock out. The Night Shift TV show has been cancelled after four seasons on NBC. The medical drama first premiered in of May of 2014. It ran as a summer series, except in season two, when it was a mid-season replacement.
Airing on the NBC television network, The Night Shift stars Robert Bailey Jr., Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, Brendan Fehr, Scott Wolf, Tanaya Beatty, and JR Lemon, with Mark Consuelos recurring in season four. The series centers on the quirky, yet extraordinary emergency room night shift at San Antonio Memorial, who’ll risk almost anything to save their patients.
The Night Shift: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of The Night Shift averaged a 0.66 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.96 million viewers. Compared to season three, it was down by 32% and down by 21%, respectively. The Night Shift did not stack up well against other NBC TV shows. Even among the Peacock Network’s summer series, it earned pretty low ratings, so the cancellation makes sense.
Here is more on The Night Shift cancellation, from NBC, via Deadline:
“We want to thank our amazing creators and executive producers, Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, for their dedication and stellar work; a cast and crew that were second to none; and the city of Albuquerque, N.M., which graciously opened its arms to us,” said Jennifer Salke, President of NBC Entertainment. “For four seasons The Night Shift gave audiences a window to heroic doctors, nurses and all-star medical workers who never hesitated to give their blood, sweat and time to help those most in need.”
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled or renewed The Night Shift TV series for a fifth season? Were you still watching it? Sound off, in the comments.
Please bring the show back. It was a great show! How about you take off some of those stupid sit-coms NBC.
Netflix only has 3 seasons, so I bought season 4 on Amazon. The ending left as if there would be more. I searched and searched to find this answer, now I’m so disappointed. I really think it was a bad move by NBC to just cut off a show that way. Having season 5 and letting that be the end would have been a better idea. Much more appreciated by fans of the the network. This day and age, everyone else let’s everyone know, “The Final Season” has arrived. It let’s all people know that this is the end. I… Read more »
DON’T CANCEL SUCH AN AMAZING SHOW!
I really like the show! Binge watching on Netflix! Wish there were more seasons. Characters are amazing and story line is engaging.
This is my favorite show!!!!!!!! Please don’t cancel!!!!!
That sucks.
DO NOT CANCEL NIGHT SHIFT!!! Apparently, I’m a minority, but I absolutely love that show – quirkiness & all. It deals with real issues realistically. No, it’s not 100% accurate medically, and it probably pushes the boundaries regarding Service rules, regs, and behavior, but they play their roles as real heroes. Right now, I have 3 grandchildren in the Service: Amy’s Navy, and two of her brothers are Army. I celebrate and pray for them. As for myself, I had to retire recently, after 46 years as a licensed medical professional. I repeat: THIS HAS BEEN ONE OF THE BEST… Read more »
I absolutely love this show and really hope they reconsider a fifth season I’m currently watching for my second time on Netflix and love it even more the second time around!
NBC seems to have a knack of stepping on their own stuff. I don’t think most viewers consider NBC a leader in great television series. Seems like it’s more like an accident when they get something really worth watching. Night Shift will probably be replace with another NBC lame series that won’t make it an entire season. Remember “Las Vegas”? An incredible series. Great actors, exciting story lines and it was replace by “Robinson Crusoe”. Yeah, NBC, you’ve got a talent for bad TV moves.. Are you going to save a couple of hundred dollars by bringing in another stupid… Read more »
The first two seasons were great, but just went down hill from there. I waited each week to see if it would get back to what it started out as, but it just kept getting more and more ridiculous , which is too bad because it was one of my favorites. I’m not at all surprised it was canceled, unfortunately. Someone needed to take a few tips from ER, and maybe it could’ve lasted 15 years.
I REALLY HATE TO SEE THIS SHOW GO AS I ENJOYED WATCHING IT.. PLEASE RECONSIDER IT………

I can’t believe this show is canceled, I am a vet and loved this show. The actors were great, the characters were excellent. Finaly there was a different type of hospital show and it gets canceled meanwhile other shows go on forever
