TV show description:
This dramatic series is a saga of faith, ambition and betrayal and is based on the Biblical Books of Samuel. It’s told through the eyes of the battle-weary King Saul, the resentful prophet Samuel, and the resourceful young shepherd David. The three are on a collision course with destiny and the story that unfolds is still being told today.
A thousand years before Christ, the first king of the Israelites, Saul (Ray Winstone), struggles to unify the dozen Israelite tribes and defend his fledgling nation against savage enemy attacks.
He is married to Queen Ahinoam (Simone Kessell) and their children are Jonathan (Haaz Sleiman), Merav (Jeanine Mason), Ishbaal (James Floyd), and Michal (Maisie Richardson-Sellers).
The prophet Samuel (Mohammad Bakriz) relays a message from God to King Saul that he must destroy one of Israel’s ancient enemies. But, when Saul defies that message, Samuel prophesies that the Lord will tear the kingdom of Israel from him and choose another in his place.
In time, Saul comes to realize that his greatest threat doesn’t come from his enemies, but from the shepherd named David (Olly Rix).

What do you think? Do you like the Of Kings and Prophets TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or, left on the air and renewed for second season?
I hate this Biblical show is cancelled. I would of watch it often but I could never catch it, when it was on, because I worked nights. One night I was off work, and I got a glimpse of it. It seemed interesting to me.
Hey ABC program director, the 1970’s called and want their broadcast programming schedule back. Reality check, nobody watches TV in the “time slot”, they record it and watch it later. While I understand your revenue is based on advertising, you really need to get into this century and rethink how you actually reach your viewers. This was a great show and had the potential to being a great series. Clearly you do not understand your audience and should hire a program director in touch with today’s consumers.
Bummed that a great show was canceled after only 2 episodes. Guess ABC thinks intellectual shows aren’t good for the public…not a happy camper! At least give it to another network to show the rest of the season. Of Kings and Prophets was good from the beginning, drew me in, and was well done.
I like this show. Was ready to watch 3rd episode. I usually record the good stuff so boyfriend n I could watch together. Now how do get to watch the others. Everyone has a opinion. I say : Don’t like what you see, STOP looking. Change the channel.
I certainly hope that another channel will pick up this wonderful rendering of the story or King Saul and David and Goliath. I am so saddened that ABC made such a hasty decision to cancel it after only two airings! Shame on you ABC! And I do not watch your replacement in the same time slot and never will. The show you replaced OKAP with, really, you think your viewers would rather watch that in place of OKAP? Is everyone losing their minds at ABC? You cancelled a great program about true stories from the Bible. Our nation needs more… Read more »
It has taken me this long to respond to the cancellation of this show because it was traumatizing. I was just beginning to tell people about this show and how it helped me to visualize the way it may have been. When the third episode was to be aired with the battle between David and Goliath and never did, I felt this scenario was truly a battle. ABC did not publicize this correctly and to say it is too bad is an understatement.
Totally Disappointed: From the 1st preview I waited to watch this series. Historical “Buff” that I am I like historical saga that are true to the way it truely was, not like a fairy tale. Two weeks didn’t really give it a fair chance to catch on….plus not really advertised as many other less serious shows. Myself I think the producers should approach the cable channels instead the local channels…..
great show bring it back
Bring it back. What the heck man who makes these decisions… There are more then enough people that are wanting to watch it… Why didn’t you advertise it… I didn’t even know it was on till it came on. After a show I was watching.
This site was cancelled way too soon! I needed more! I must see the other 8 episodes! How do we get to view then. This show is amongst the best series and was cancelled way too soon!!!!
Where can we watch the eight shows that didn’t air? I really liked the show and would definitly watch more! My vote is to keep it not cancel it!
I can’t believe this was canceled please bring it back. Finally abc gets it right then take it away. Unhappy!!
Of Kings and Prophets was a welcome portrayal of a period of history where so much fantasy is believed. The people of that time period were barbaric, only semi-conscious and had extremely dim views of shamanic utterances … yet modern Christians will base their faith and lives on the messages of such personages. The story needs to be told–emphatically.
I was looking forward to seeing David deal with Goliath. Why don’t they make these decisions after viewing the pilot?
Not surprised the series was cancelled. It seems like when there is a show that appeals to thinking adults it gets panned. Not much to watch anymore on the major three channels. We did enjoy this show. It was gory, had sex in it but it was done well. Sorry no one wants to see quality TV any more.
We loved the two episodes that played and wondered what happened to the rest of the series. Would love to know.
