ABC’s mid-season medical drama, Off the Map, recently concluded its first season on the air. The alphabet network’s been looking for a new hit drama and this one was produced by veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. How does Off the Map stack up? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season two?
Off the Map revolves around six doctors who have “lost their way” and travel to a remote South American jungle to help those in need and to try to rediscover the reasons why they wanted to become physicians. The series features the talents of Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The medical drama premiered with a mediocre 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The TV series won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. ABC decided to give Off the Map another chance to attract viewers by rerunning the first episode the following night, in place of a Private Practice rerun, and it retained much of the Grey’s Anatomy lead-in audience.
Unfortunately, that’s still not a great start and subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Off the Map is the second-lowest scripted series on ABC that hasn’t already been officially cancelled, averaging a 1.7 in the demo and 4.96 million viewers. It ranks below doomed No Ordinary Family and just above doomed Detroit 1-8-7. In short, unless ABC really needs to keep Shonda Rhimes happy, there is no reason why the network would bring Off the Map back next year for season two.

I’m generally not a fan of dramas, but I love this show! I agree with dina – would prefer to see this on at 9:00. I have to get up early for work, so I usually end up watching it later on my iPad. 🙂
Please do not cancel Off the Map. Its a great show and I love all its cast members and the beautiful scenery and it has a great plot. I love to see it every week. Along with Private Practice.
I love this show so much, I am really hoping it doesn’t get cancelled. The characters are great and I love the plots. I am really going to be upset if the show gets cancelled.
Great show keep it running. Probably would have had higher viewers if it was a 9 pm show instead of 10.

I haven’t watched a show that keeps me so rivetted like “Off The Map” does. It has great writing, great cast, and it is NOT another reality show. It has more substance than the dime a dozen medical shows out there. Please don’t cancel.
PLEASE STOP REPLACING THE WELL WRITTEN SHOWS FOR THE SLIME .THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF MY FAVORITE NEW TV SERIES; WHICH I FEEL ARE NOT MANY THESE DAYS. THE SCRIPTS ‘ACTORS AND SCENERY ARE FANOMINAL. I WATCH FAITHFULLY AND ANXIOUSLY WAIT FOR THE NEXT SHOW. I DONT UNDERSTAND THE AUDIENCE’S TASTE IN SCRIPTS THESE DAYS. IF IT ISNT VULGAR OR REDICULOUSLY KINTERGARDEN MATERIAL, THEY FAIL TO SEE THE REMARKABLE VALUES . SEEMS THEY LACK CLASS AND EDUCATION. PLEASE KEEP IT ON THE AIR ;DONT FAIL US AGAIN .
I loved the show. I didn’t realize it was only running for 13 episodes. I was disappointed when it wasn’t on again. If the show wasn’t going to go forward I wish they would of finalized the ending and not left us hanging.
PLease Bring Off the Map Back! I really enjoyed the show! I love medical dramas and it was a a nice break from the typical scene you see In Private Practice and Grey’s. I looked forward to Wednesdays! If you need to cancel a show, Private Practice has run it’s course. I saw no point in watching it after the first couple of episodes this season. Bring the Jungle Back!!!

Yes!! Off the map MUST stay on!!! It didnt get really interesting until about mid way through and definately toward the end. Maybe thats why it didnt catch alot of viewers to begin with. What they NEED to do, is have the black oman doctor from private practice join the show to begin a crossover show. I mean she did leave the practice to go travell around the world and help people, right??? Atleast one or two shows with her if they couldnt get her full time. That would bring all the greys anatomy and private practice lovers that way!!
I Love Off the Map. It’s the first show in a while that I have really gotten into. I don’t think it’s right to end a season, and leaving those hanging on what’s next to happen and not do a season 2. If you have to cancel which I pray you won’t, please end the story line for the fans who do like it. Please Please, we want season 2!!!!!
PLEASE keep this show on the air! they should also factor in how many people dont have time to catch it on tv, and look at how many views it gets online on places like hulu!!!!
Please do not cancel off the map. Try a different time slot. This is a great show that I was really starting to get into. More and more people were begining to watch it. We want to see a Season 2 ….
