Will Project Blue Book continue? Recently, executive producers Sean Jablonski and David O’Leary spoke with Syfy Wire about the future of the cancelled History TV show.
Inspired by the personal experiences of Dr. J. Allen Hynek (Aiden Gillen), the drama series is based on the real-life, top-secret investigation into Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) and related activity, conducted in the 1950s and ’60s by the United States Air Force. The cast also includes Michael Malarkey, Laura Mennell, Ksenia Solo, Michael Harney, and Neal McDonough.
Even though History has cancelled Project Blue Book, Jablonski and O’Leary are shopping a third season to other networks and platforms. During a recent episode of Syfy Wire’s Project Blue Book podcast, the two EPs discussed their efforts to save the show and their season three plans.
From O’Leary:
We’re fortunate in that everybody involved remains committed to trying to find our show a second home, and to continue. We feel it’s unfinished. And I’m sure our fans feel it’s unfinished.
We pitched [HISTORY] Season 3 because we actually had a [writers’] room going, and we broke episodes,” O’Leary shares. “What’s so hard for us is that it’d just be such a shame for our fans to not know where it’s going and where we can continue it to go because we’ve already done all that heavy lifting.”
And what are their season three plans? Jablonski says Quinn will be involved:
Obviously, we’re gonna bring Quinn back in early on. He’s an integral part of the show. And I think something important to remember is that UFO sightings peaked worldwide in 1954. It was a global phenomenon.”
Jablosnki also added that if season three does not find a home on TV, there’s always the chance of a graphic novel:
Here’s the thing, we’ve moved so far beyond our Season 2 that we’ve also talked through Season 4. The characters are so great. I could see a version of a book, of a graphic novel, or like a smaller Quibi type version that investigates certain cases.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Project Blue Book? Do you want a third season?
I’m sorry that Project Blue Book was cancelled. One of the better TV shows on the History Channel. Don’t feel like they gave it much chance. I think the History Channel pulled the plug to early for sure.
I love the show and looked forward to watching it. It is a history show because project blue book really happened and Hynek actually existed. Please find a way to renew it. don’t leave us all wondering what happens next.
If the history channel needs to cancel something here are a few suggestions
Forged in Fire who needs to make a sword or dagger? a very limited audience
Pawn Stars Really old and tired needs to be gone
History channel your making a bad decision cancelling the show.
I love the show and it was my favourite one.
I like the fact that it was based on historical facts and
It was very well done. Please find another platform or ways to have the third season and more to be continued
We love this show. It is very similar to x-files. The truth is out there. Please find a way to continue as we will continue to watch and be amazed.
Project Blue Book turned out to be my favorite show to watch in years!!! Please do not stop this show!!! Why? Best program on TV in years!!!
Who makes the addle-headed programming choices @ both History and SyFy channels? They both have long, sad, baffling track records of BOTH brand-inappropriate show choices AND also mishandling/quickly terminating many of their own in-house series. Cases in point: Defiance on SyFy, and now PBB on History. Stoner execs throwing darts at a dartboard to make ‘decisions’, perhaps? Magic 8 Ball administration?
We loved that show. Please find a new home for the series
One of the best and most entertaining shows that not only is gripping drama but gives a realistic look at that time and attitudes in America. Please let it find a new home.
Project Blue Book was, is the best show to come along in years!!! Please renew this series!!!
We loved the series Project Blue Book and hope to see it continue, it’s obviously an unfinished work. Great subject that is of interest for believers and nonbelievers.
Awesome show, please bring it back !!
Whi made that stupid decision? Please pitch it to Anazon or Netflix. Awesome show!
I actually lived thru many years of the “REAL” “Project Blue Book”, all the while my father was in the Air Force. It is an EXCELLENT show and alot true to life. I hope the writers, directors, etc are able to find another Network to pick this show up! It is nowhere close to the middle or end of the true story. Would definitely love to see this show play out for a long time to come. I wish good luck for the continuation of a show that brings back many, many memories of my growing up and sooooo many… Read more »
I love Project Blue Book. Finally a series that speaks to the heart of the matter. No, to graphic novel. This is “must see” tv. The truth is being told. Please find a way to continue to inform the American public.
please go to http://www.change.org to sign the petition to #SaveBlueBook. there are over 16,000 signatures-and still going– around the global fan base. the site allows comments and provides many new updates on the hunt for a new home for PBB, as well as weekly fan projects to reach out to new buyers for the show.
our efforts are being noticed! season 2 has been released for purchase. season 3 and probably 4 are ready to go. so join us!
How stupid is the History Channel. Cancel a great show like PBB, but we have to watch a competition on how to make a sword and who wins. Now that’s boring. Somebody over at History Channel needs to wake up. I hope someone picks it up for a 3rd season and more.
Yes I’m a big fan and would be very disappointed if season 3 is not aired
