Will Project Blue Book continue? Recently, executive producers Sean Jablonski and David O’Leary spoke with Syfy Wire about the future of the cancelled History TV show.
Inspired by the personal experiences of Dr. J. Allen Hynek (Aiden Gillen), the drama series is based on the real-life, top-secret investigation into Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) and related activity, conducted in the 1950s and ’60s by the United States Air Force. The cast also includes Michael Malarkey, Laura Mennell, Ksenia Solo, Michael Harney, and Neal McDonough.
Even though History has cancelled Project Blue Book, Jablonski and O’Leary are shopping a third season to other networks and platforms. During a recent episode of Syfy Wire’s Project Blue Book podcast, the two EPs discussed their efforts to save the show and their season three plans.
From O’Leary:
We’re fortunate in that everybody involved remains committed to trying to find our show a second home, and to continue. We feel it’s unfinished. And I’m sure our fans feel it’s unfinished.
We pitched [HISTORY] Season 3 because we actually had a [writers’] room going, and we broke episodes,” O’Leary shares. “What’s so hard for us is that it’d just be such a shame for our fans to not know where it’s going and where we can continue it to go because we’ve already done all that heavy lifting.”
And what are their season three plans? Jablonski says Quinn will be involved:
Obviously, we’re gonna bring Quinn back in early on. He’s an integral part of the show. And I think something important to remember is that UFO sightings peaked worldwide in 1954. It was a global phenomenon.”
Jablosnki also added that if season three does not find a home on TV, there’s always the chance of a graphic novel:
Here’s the thing, we’ve moved so far beyond our Season 2 that we’ve also talked through Season 4. The characters are so great. I could see a version of a book, of a graphic novel, or like a smaller Quibi type version that investigates certain cases.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Project Blue Book? Do you want a third season?
Re-watching Season 2 right now! Would really love to see another season. One of the few “new” shows I follow.
Season 1 AND 2 of Project Blue Book were phenomenal–loved every episode ( each I’ve watched twice or three times! ). I’m really hoping the show is picked up by either one of the Big 3 networks, SyFy or Netflix.
I am a huge fan of Project Blue Book. I can’t tell you how disappointed I will be, if I cannot watch it again. There are too few dramas offered that can provide the kind of escapism Project Blue Book offers. Please, Please, don’t give up on this show! Thank You
Please keep the show going.
I have family that like this show and are not willing to read books on the subjects this show covers. My family is intrigued by this show and are will to learn about our country’s past from it.
Don’t let this show die until they have finished telling their story.
Please bring back Project Blue Book. It’s one of the best shows on television. I can’t believe it has been canceled.
Why did they take off my favorite show in years? Blue Book! Bring back Blue Book!
Honestly, one of the best TV shows! I really hope that there will be a new season!
PBB was unique in that it chronologically followed real events, that apparently intrigued Zemeckis as well. His presence is felt in the believable CGI, to the well cast characters, writing, and a few heart strings pulled in ways that are lost in other productions. This was not one for the chopping block because of ratings, maybe it should have been promoted better. This could, (and should) be a movie. Up the CGI and re-write for the big screen, and a full Zemeckis production of course. Dare I say, a movie to finally eclipse Close Encounters?? I believe Zemeckis could do… Read more »
Please bring it back !
Visually well done, like able characters, and stories I remember from the newspapers growing up in the Midwest. Hey, with B58 Hustlers busting the sound barrier all around me, UFO technology was just a notch up for a little boy that wants to believe in magic
Love project blue book would purchase season 3 on dvd just to find out what’s next
Good show, I looked forward to it each week, bring it back.
Please bring back Project Blue Book, I agree with Mike from Boise pull the plug on Oak Island that show is EXTREMELY boring!! I would take UFO’s over digging for “treasure” that is not there.
Please Find a new home for Project Blue Book! It was absolutely my favorite show on TV! The cast has great chemistry and the writing was superior. Also, the production was second to none. I’m so disappointed to hear it was cancelled. PBB is to great of series to only have 2 seasons! Beyond ludicrous why the so called History Channel brass would pull the plug on a successful series. Hey History Channel!!! Pull the plug on Oak Island instead. Stop wasting your money paying for an excavation that will never find anything!!!!
It was actually a creatively written show unlike so many on cable and reality shows, all you hear is bleep, bleep , bleep! Someone actually used their brains to produce this show! I hope you find a new home!
Yes, a definite season 3!
