Jason Katims captured hearts and minds with his high school football drama, Friday Night Lights. Meanwhile, as a producer of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway smash, Hamilton, Jeffrey Seller knows a thing or two about compelling theater. Together, they’ve created NBC’s new Rise TV show, based on Michael Sokolov’s book, Drama High about Lou Volpe’s acclaimed theater program at Harry S. Truman High School in Bucks County, PA. Does the first season have what it takes to leave the audience wanting more? Will Rise be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A high school drama, Rise stars Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez, Auli’i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, Marley Shelton, Rarmian Newton, Ted Sutherland, Amy Forsyth, Casey W. Johnson, Taylor Richardson, Joe Tippett, and Shirley Rumierk. The NBC TV series centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to Volpe. Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he signed up for a whole lot more than he originally expected. Soon the faculty, student body, and even the town residents will find themselves caught up in the new spirit at the school.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/16/18 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Rise TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season on NBC?
5/11/18 update: NBC has cancelled Rise so there won’t be a second season. Details here.
So bummed that this is cancelled… the show was just getting really good!!! I think it needed more of a chance!
I really enjoyed the show. Shows real people with working out problems and that there can be others to help. Great for high school kids to understand today with all the bullying.
Also, very enjoyable and I loved that these talented individuals had opportunity to perform and show real talent. Perhaps the show could have been tweaked and promoted more disappointing that it is cancelled.
It was really nice watching a show that so much like reality. It showed what real life kids & families deal with on a daily basis. It wasn’t about catching a killer or who is shooting who. (which we need less of) I think of our kids of any age need to be watching more shows like this instead of shows that contain so much violence. Everyone wants to stop violence & shootings in schools then they should have these kind of shows to show kids that problems can be solved without violence. Instead of all of the shows that… Read more »
I am so sick and tired of these networks cancelling all these shows. The rise was won of the best tv shows on!
Oh my gosh . . it is cancelled? You have got to be kidding. Finally there is a show that touches on today’s reality of our young adults and it is cancelled? The acting was amazing and I felt as though I was living their lives with them; this is honestly the ONLY weekly drama I watched this season, the only one. How very disappointing.
LOVE the show . . . it is amazing and very telling of society today.
So sorry it is cancelled, it was a very thought provoking show. A lot of issues were brought out. So sorry another sitcom will take its place.
Very educating. It shows the struggle teenagers go through and helps parents to understand their children.
Best show on tv.
Excellent show! Real. Great talents and actors
I am shocked that NBC cancelled this show. It was an excellent premise of today’s issues with children/teens. I am so-o-o-o disappointed and confused by this decision. Shame on you, NBC!
I can’t believe this is cancelled!!! One of the best shows on TV right now!! So tired of all of the junk TV that gets renewed and a quality show like this does not!
