Comedy writer Niki Schwartz-Wright, who produced the now cancelled Grinder TV show on FOX, will join the Speechless TV series on ABC as a supervising producer. According to a Deadline report, Schwartz-Wright has signed her first overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television.
Speechless features Minnie Driver as Maya DiMeo. Maya is a mom on a mission who will do anything for her husband Jimmy (John Ross Bowie), and her kids Ray (Mason Cook), Dylan (Kyla Kenedy), and JJ (Michah Fowler), her eldest son with special needs. Cedric Yarbrough also stars.
Friends‘ Scott Silveri writes and executive produces of the show, with Fresh Off the Boat’s Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar. The series comes from Twentieth Century Fox Television and ABC Studios. This fall, Speechless is slated to air on Wednesdays at 8:30pm, between The Goldbergs and Modern Family.
Deadline says:
Niki has a fierce and original comedic voice and she did fantastic work for us on The Grinder last season,” 20th TV president of creative affairs Jonnie Davis said. “We knew we wanted to be in business with her exclusively, and she’s the perfect addition to the dream team Scott, Jake and Melvin are putting together for Speechless. She’s a big talent with a bright future and we’re thrilled to have her on our roster.”
Schwartz-Wright started writing when she was in film school at NYU. She wrote on the final season of NBC’s The Office and also worked on ABC’s The Goldbergs.
