[SPOILER WARNING] The Hollywood Reporter interviewed Suits TV series showrunner Aaron Korsh about the season five finale. Because USA Network has already renewed the show, talk turned to the upcoming sixth season of Suits.
In the fifth season finale, Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) cut a deal for that would see him sentenced to two years, in order to save Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Jessica (Gina Torres) from going to prison.
When asked if there was going to be a time jump, Korsh said although they talked about it, he decided since they were going through with the arrest storyline, they should see it through. The season six premiere will come back to the same night as the season five finale. Korsh says, “The entire episode as is currently contemplated takes place with Mike’s first night in prison and the first night back at the firm when they’ve come back and it’s empty.”
THR also asked if Wendell Pierce’s Robert Zane would be featured more in Suits‘ sixth season. Pierce plays Teddy on the CBS sitcom, The Odd Couple. Korsh said it is hard to plan for his character without knowing his availability ahead of time. If and when Pierce’s schedule opens up, Suits will find a way to work him into season six.
Korsh laid out the focus of the season six premiere, for THR. “What are they going to do based on this whole thing happening? Are they going to shatter, or are they going to come together and start fresh?”
Korsh says the sixth season will be about “moving forward.” It will look at how Mike deals with being in prison, and what his time there will do to his relationships, adding, “As for the other five, what happens when the two pillars of their existence — Mike and the firm — have been knocked out?”
Are you a fan of the Suits TV show? What did you think of the fifth season finale? Let us know, below.
Hey Aaron Korsh here’s an idea for you: a Suits spinoff series called PEN STRIPES w/Mike behind bars helping other cons w/their legal woes. (call me!) Definitely, more humor is needed and less convoluted back and forth in story plots. My neck can’t take the whiplash. The Suits Pilot was THE best of all of the show of all of the seasons. Great job. Like others here, I’m hoping the show will continue!
I’m so disappointed Mike went to jail. I think the show would have been better if Harvey would have ran in the jail ahead of him or something like that, as if he had made the deal with Gibbs without Mike.. somehow? But i agree with most posts here that the dynamic between Harvey and Mike is the key to this show. It is one of only a few shows that I am actually invested in and watch every episode. I am still holding out hope for season 6, even if Mike is in jail, I just hope that there… Read more »
The writers ran out of gas. Too bad, previous seasons had us wanting more. This last season was a total turn off. Refresh and regroup or retire. No rocket science there.
I absolutely love this show! I hope it continues for many many seasons
Love SUITS! Glad it’s returning.
Luv this show but wish they would stop using God’s name in vain and then say we are praying to God! It would still be just as effective with out God#*+#* as every other word!
I was so disappointed. The whole premise of the show and the dynamic between Harvey and Mike has changed for the worse. The best thing they can do is have Mike wake up as though it was a nightmare and wait for the jury to come back with the innocent verdict. We were left with a disappointed, eyeball rolling, head shaking reaction. It’s like the writers don’t know why the show was successful in the first place!
I thought the finale was brilliant! I am so looking forward to Season 6, especially since Aaron Korsh had said they plan to bring humor back into the show. It will also be exciting to see them rebuilding Pearson Specter Litt.
I like the show, but really, really, REALLY wish they would STOP using the “gd” phrasing……Please!!!
Loved it but upset about the outcome. Can’t wait for next season.
One of my can’t miss shows. I was glad Mike didn’t get out of the deal. It would have been like all other shows with the fairy tale ending.Anxious to see how they will regroup and what Mike’s role will be .
Extremely disappointed! If they continue this story line it will destroy the dynamic of the show. I am hoping Harvey finds a way to get Mike out of prison. Feel the writers should of had the not guilty and put this part of the story line to rest.
Well said. This show excels when the firm is dealing with interesting cases together as a team and everyone is interacting. The season when Mike was stuck doing his annoying business stint was the worst, largely because it isolated him from the rest of the cast. While doing this “blow up” might have seemed like a good idea on paper for creating maximum drama this season, it feels like the writers have now painted themselves into a corner. Sorry, but I have no desire to watch a season of Mike stuck in jail while the rest of the cast argues… Read more »
Love this show!! Anxious for next season!
I love this series and am very glad there will be a season 6. I am holding out hope that something will happen to get Mike out of jail well before his 2-year sentence is up.
I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED WITH THE FINALE – WANTED THEM TO FIND A WAY OUT FOR MIKE. HE SHOULD HAVE WAITED FOR THE VERDICT. I LOVE THIS SHOW AND IT WAS MAINLY BECAUSE OF MIKE & HARVEY. NOT SURE WHAT IT WILL BE LIKE, JUST HAVE TO SEE.
HAPPY TO KNOW THERE WILL BE A SEASON SIX!.
THE ENDING SEEMED TO INDICATE THAT IT COULD BE THE SERIES FINALE IN THE EVENT THE CONTRACT WAS NOT RENEWED FOR ANOTHER SEASON. GLAD WE WILL GET TO SEE MORE
How long do you think the show could last, Barbara?
Thanks for your comment, Nancy. I’m sorry you were disappointed by the finale. Expect Mike to be in prison for a while in season six. It make make things interesting to shake it up, a little.
