USA Network today announced it has renewed its longstanding legal drama Suits for a 10-episode ninth and final season. The iconic hit series, which first aired on USA Network in 2011, hails from UCP and creator/executive producer Aaron Korsh.
Suits began when legendary hotshot lawyer Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) took a gamble by hiring Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), a brilliant, but not-so-legitimate college dropout, as an associate at his prolific Manhattan law firm. Over several seasons, this dynamic duo along with Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres), Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman), Donna Paulsen (Sarah Rafferty), and Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle), became a family intertwined in one another’s triumphs and tribulations, including countless corporate takeovers, a wild prison storyline, a shocking disbarring and a magical wedding.
Currently, Suits centers on an evolved firm led by Harvey, Louis, secretary-turned-COO Donna, plus Robert Zane (Wendell Pierce). The firm continues to tackle top corporate cases with the support of the formidable Alex Williams (Dulé Hill), undeniably talented Katrina Bennett (Amanda Schull), and new addition to the team, powerhouse attorney Samantha Wheeler (Katherine Heigl). Together, these top minds rely on their knowledge, wit and intuition to keep their clients at bay and the firm afloat.
Premiering tonight at 10/9c, the back half of Suits Season 8 will pick up with Louis as the new managing partner of Zane Specter Litt. In a last-ditch effort to unify the team, both Samantha and Alex got their names on the wall and these six episodes will explore their new dynamic, the power shift between Louis, Harvey and Robert, and Katrina’s promotion to senior partner — plus, Donna’s role at the firm and her new love interest.
From UCP, Suits was created and is executive produced by Korsh. Doug Liman, David Bartis, and Gene Klein of Hypnotic serve as executive producers. Genevieve Sparling, Ethan Drogin, and Christopher Misiano also serve as executive producers.
Aaron Korsh Thanks Suits Fans in a Statement About Its Ninth and Final Season
Along with the announcement that Suits will return for a ninth and final season on USA Network, showrunner and creator Aaron Korsh shared a statement regarding his journey which began in 2011.
Though I know it isn’t true, it seems like only yesterday USA Network took a chance on an unestablished writer’s very first hour long script. These days that’s a common thing, but forty seven years ago when I first wrote the Untitled Korsh Project, nobody did it. Nobody except the people at USA and UCP. First and foremost I would like to thank Alex Sepiol and Dennis Kim, without whom SUITS would never have gotten made. I also cannot thank Bill McGoldrick, Jeff Wachtel, Bonnie Hammer, Chris McCumber, Ted Chervin, Dave Bartis, Gene Klein, Doug Liman, Dawn Olmstead and everyone at the network and studio enough for their dedication and support throughout the years. And to the exceptional writers, cast and crew – thank you for your passion and devotion, without which, SUITS would be nothing. And last but never least, to the fans who have stuck with the SUITS family through thick and thin, through can-openers and flashbacks – thank you for always speaking your mind. Without you, I might start to think I’m getting the hang of this writing thing. And once that happens, nobody wins. I look forward to enraging and hopefully sometimes delighting you with the final episodes. Finally, to my wife Kate and my children Cooper and Lucy. Thank you for enduring countless late nights and times away, for me to get to live my dream. I love you. Love, Aaron
Korsh has always been active and accessible with ‘Suitors’ on social media, often taking to spur-of-the-moment Q&As on Twitter to offer behind-the-scenes insights and little teases for what’s to come. Just recently, the showrunner shared with fans what to expect with Louis at the helm of the firm as managing partner and which episode in the “back six” will be the biggest game-changer.
“Suits has played an instrumental role in our network’s DNA for nearly a decade,” said Chris McCumber, President, USA Network and SYFY. “I and everyone at USA Network sincerely thank Aaron Korsh, our partners at UCP, and the entire Suits family for their tremendous creativity, devotion and support over a truly amazing run.”
What do you think? Do you watch Suits? How do you want the series to end?
I have watched Suits since it’s debut! It is a fantastic show! I’m crushed it’s ending. I love Jessica and of course will watch Pearson. It would be fantastic if some of the actors from Suits appeared in her show. I know the cancelling of Suits won’t change just know as a viewer it was beyond amazing it’s my favorite show of all times. I am already crushed! It would be amazing to see Donna and Harvey get married and Lewis have his son. I have loved Dulé Hill since West Wing. The ENTIRE CAST is fabulous I will miss… Read more »
Another USA disappointment. How can you possibly even consider cancelling Suits, which by the way I agree is the best show on ALL the networks. Some of us viewers actually have a brain and it is hardly stimulated by the ridiculous programs you are pushing down our throats. Please keep Suits on. Pearson may be good and we won’t know until it’s released, but really, cancelling???? It’s your job to see that our young people will be able to lead our country. How can they learn anything from what you are offering.
Some of the best acting on TV. Chemistry is fantastic ! So intelligent and always interesting! Don’t cancel!! Please come back. It’s so nice to have a show that makes you think!
I think Suits is the best USA has ! Dont cancel it.
Bring Mike back.
Rachel has run off with someone else (dirty harry) ho ho
I have always enjoyed watching “Suits “ with these amazing actors whom each had their own ways but are family. I will truly miss this show .
I would like to see it end with Donna & Harvey walking down the aisle .
Thank you so much for “SUITS “.
I think this was the best season yet! Dont cancel it.
Thought Season 8 Episode 14 had really interesting twists!! So happyThere is a Season 9 Would like to see Mike & Jessica return for an episode & Most would like to see Harvey & Dona together, but she is good with her new love!! Would really like Harvey to meet someone new that is love @ 1st site!!! Maybe visit Mike or take a case out of the city & meet his soulmate!!! But would also enjoy Dona & Him if that’s the plan!!
I would like it to end with Mike and Harvey getting together for their own firm with Donna
I love the show have watched from the beginning! Miss Mike and Rachel Especial mike and Harvey’s interaction with each other. Batman and Robin! Love all of that!
My husband and I love Suits. It’s our favorite show. It’s irreplaceable to us. There are no smart shows out there to watch where you like and relate to the characters. There is so much more that could’ve been written for these characters to expand and it’s disappointing to see it’s ending. I’m sure the shows writer’s don’t see the show from the viewers point of view but there was so much more storyline that could’ve been written for these characters. Very disappointed.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Suits! Sooo sad to see it go. I am unlikely to watch the spinoff re Jessica Pearson. Just love Harvey and Donna relationship, Lewis and Donna friendship, Harvey and Mike were great. Would like to see Mike come back periodically to do a case with Harvey and Lewis. Maybe Harvey and Donna end up together romantically, Robert Zane takes on the running of the firm to let Lewis expand his family time, Lewis is torn between juggling work and family demands, the main characters go partying together more, Robert or Donna deals with a health issue and… Read more »
I don’t understand why USA would cancel such a great show! I love it! I think it is still just as good without Meghan although I love her, please don’t cancel it!!!!
I loved the show from the beginning, but the 2018 season was a little too much arguing for my taste. I hope the last season has the lawyers all working together to bolster the firm rather than constantly bickering amongst themselves.
I think it’s a mistake to cancel SUITS. No other show on USA Network is that good.
why do you always take the real good shows off? I didn’t think I would be as interested in the show once Meghan and Patrick were off it, but I still absolutely love it. Maybe you should start listening to the fans.
Canceling this show is a dumb move. No legit reason to do it. USA has nothing else this good.
Are the Ratings that bad? I think that they are making a mistake.
USA has ridiculously high standards for their ratings…it hit several 0.2’s over the course of the first 10 episodes, they’ve canceled shows that have gotten higher than that, I think the decision is mainly because of the cast wanting to move on.
