Cancel your season two plans, fans. There will be no second season of the Sun Records TV show on CMT. The story is ending with one season and has already been removed from the press site. The series is set in Memphis, Tennessee, during the early days of the Civil Rights movement and the birth of rock ‘n’ roll.
A music business drama, Sun Records stars Chad Michael Murray, Billy Gardell, Drake Milligan, Kevin Fonteyne, Christian Lees, and Jonah Lees. The CMT cast also includes: Trevor Donovan, Keir O’Donnell, Jennifer Holland, Margaret Anne Florence, and Kerry D. Holliday.
Deadline reports:
While Nashville — which is half-way though its first season on CMT and fifth overall — has been renewed for a 16-episode sixth season, there are no plans to extend its companion, 8-episode period drama Sun Records, which chronicles the birth of rock ‘n’ roll, CMT’s head of development Jayson Dinsmore told Deadline.
“Originally we had planned for it to be a three-night events, and we morphed the development into a limited-run series,” Dinsmore said of Sun Records, which got a boost by airing behind Nashville. “It always was to be a limited-run series. It did extremely well but there are no current plans for additional episodes. We may revisit. You never know, because it did quite well.”
Sun Records: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Sun Records averaged a 0.13 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 585,000 viewers. While those ratings seem low in comparison to broadcast network TV series, they fall between the other CMT TV shows we are tracking (i.e. Nashville and Still the King).
What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the Sun Records TV series? Do you think CMT should have cancelled or renewed it for season two?
My 15 yr old daughter & I loved this series
We were so looking forward to season 2
Please reconsider cancelling this show
I thought it was going to culminate with the Million Dollar Quartet playing together. There should be some closure. We really liked seeing the musicians develop.
you have to bring back this series. It was so entertaining , great acting and great music. Tired of the other networks reality shows. Give us a real show about real people and their music. A breath of fresh air.
PLEASE RENEW. I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH!!!!
How disappointing that the series has not been renewed. It was interesting to see and follow the new talent. My husband and I really likes it and thought it was an excellent show.
Please reconsider bringing the show back.
It should be renewed. The stories were far from over. I don’t believe it was meant to end like that.
You should definitely bring back Sun Records. My husband and I enjoyed the show very much and learning the history of the singers was very interesting.
Great show, great actors, great music…it shouldn’t have been canceled.
Come on! This was a great show. Rethink your cancellation..
Really enjoyed Sun Records. Really wish there was a second season!!!
Why?? OMG we loved that show how can you leave us hanging. Sun Records is a show baby boomers can identify with we are so tired of the trashy shows today from people that think that is talent! Please please bring it back!!!
PLEASE RENEW EPISODE 2!!! It was just getting good!!
This was excellent show. I can’t believe that they would cancel it. Everyone in my family loved watching it, even my teenage kids looked forward to it. Also, everyone that I knew that watched the show loved it. The cast was excellent and it would be a shame to waste such talent. I hope that they give it another chance. If they go through and cancel it, I’ll never watch CMT again. I agree with the other comments that they didn’t promote the show enough. On a major network, it would have been a smash hit.
Why??? Favorite show and loved the talent!! Please think about this decision once again! I am devastated! From what I am reading I am not alone. Think People!!!
Please renew…love this show!
I really enjoyed this show. Please reconsider and give it another chance so much mot seen yet. Brilliant young cast. One of my favorite shows his year!!!#
