Episode 01-01 & 02: Monday, 9/26/11
The two hour premiere attracted a 3.1 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 9.22 million. It was in third place for the timeslots and surely a disappointment for FOX considering the production expenses and promotion.
On the positive side, the two hours showed very good retention which means that most people who tuned in kept watching until the end. That’s a positive indicator for next week.
When you compare this with last season’s 8pm premiere of House, the network was down by 24% in the demo. On the positive side, Terra Nova improved over last year’s quickly-cancelled Lone Star premiere by 238%.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Terra Nova TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?

My family & I love this show! I truly don’t understand some of the posts that mention “family oriented” like its’ a bad thing. I love the fam dynamic of the show. I love the environmental angle about our doomed future (very forseeable), and it makes us smile at the thought of humanity getting a second chance. I think the problem is that so much of the bonehead viewing audience just wants to see as much violence as possible (T-Rexs biting off peoples heads & that sort of thing). Anything outside of that & most people just get bored. Sad,… Read more »
I tried to like it, really did. But my pvr for some reason didnt record it and you know what, I didnt care. It just didnt click with me. I dont know, It just doesnt feel smartly written. Like mentioned above, you know giant killer dinos are out there so you go out for a beer run… Not sure how anybody could be that calm and casual after seeing dinos for the first time. Plus they are having some deep Lostesque mystery of what really is going on that I dont care about. So once I missed that one episode… Read more »
Had high hopes for this show. Unfortunately it is badly written, slow, boring and dull. There is absolutely no chemistry whatsoever between the two main characters of Shelley Conn and Jason O’Mara.
Love the show whole family loves it. Latest episode was great and opened up the show a lot especially for Wash and Taylor….Great show hope they don’t cancel it. People need to stop comparing it to movies and other shows it’s not them its a new show…Anyways love it only show I’m watching right now, very refreshing rather watch this then those sh** shows like Jersey Shore, reality, cop, and comedy shows..Something new with action and other stuff instead of the usual…:)Love it hope it stays
the show is not on cbs its on fox
Mike » Of course. Thanks for catching that typo Mike!
All was going well (a bit slow though) until they shoot the heck of little dinos with high caliber guns and they didn’t even feel the bullets.
It lost all credibility right there.
The pilot was completely awful. The only thing that was semi-interesting was the symbols on the rocks by the waterfall. Then they had to go and explain what it was on the FIRST EPISODE. Seriously? Where’s the mystery? What a complete joke. Tv has gone way down hill. There’s no way we will continue watching.
This show reminds me of No Ordinary family, it is a family based series, it’s just not executed well. I was expecting something like Jurassic Park, but it’s basically Swiss family robinson with dinosaurs, or lack of? I was expecting to see Raptors or T-Rexs… but we get lizard birds terrorizing everyone for a full hour. *yawns*?
I guess that’s to be expected on a network with a small budget… I also agree, the characters are boring & we want to see Dinosaurs! lol.
The 3rd episode (2nd was part of 2 hour series pilot), was indeed boring. This series doesn’t give you a reason to care for the characters in Terra Nova, Its predictable, & the family oriented style this show’s taken will eventually bring it down tom cancellation, I don’t think anyone wants tv shows to take a “family oriented” style, didn’t CBS did their homework with NBC’s awful “The Cape”? But seriously this is why people love paid networks like HBO, FX, AMC, Showtime. etc.. because networks like CBS/NBC/Fox/ABC have been staying on the “safe” side & please only family oriented… Read more »
It was a bad sign that the main subplot for the second hour was your basic teenage horror film plot. However, the subplots of the renegades and the missing son of the head of security looked interesting. I will Tivo this for a few weeks to see if it survives before I commit to watching it.
” A plot consisting of teenagers sneaking off to drink beer in a forest teeming with carnivorous dinos and being trapped by said… too stupid to be taken seriously”… CSR hit it on the head. This show just makes no sense. Outside of Stephen Lang, who looks like he’s reprising his “Avatar” role, the cast looks aimless. In 2149, humanity is nearly extinct and no longer have the technology to survive, but DO have the technology to discover/use TIME TRAVEL. Of course, they go back in time to warn mankind it is killing itself, right? No, they go back 85… Read more »
That’s what I thought. If the scientists are right there was a major extinction level event that killed of the dinosaurs and I guess will kill these humans from the future. Perhaps this is how they will end if the series if/when it gets cancelled.
I found it a bit slow and dull in places. Also it was more “family” orientated and a little “soap opera” in parts. than I thought it would be. Let’s see what happens.
All in all… a pretty boring, badly written pilot. My 8 yr old (dino-lover) still wants to see it, so we’ll probably watch for a few more eps. But a plot consisting of teenagers sneaking off to drink beer in a forest teeming with carnivorous dinos and being trapped by said… just too stupid to be taken seriously.
To the writers: WAY to dumb it down right off bat!! Why hurt your impaired brains trying to write something good when you can get paid, at least til cancellation, and get a Spielberg credit on the resume churning out this crap!
Probably the most poorly written & derivative piece “sci-fi” out there. If it weren’t for Blade Runner, Jurassic Park, Land of the Lost, Stargate XYZ or a billion other ripped off references, this show would never have existed.
At least most people who tuned in stayed until the end. You really had to watch the full two hours to get a sense of what was going on; the whole first hour was mostly set-up for the second hour. I’ll keep watching, cos I like a good action-adventure show set in a lush, primordial landscape, and I hope others do, too.
