The first season of The Alienist was a success in the ratings for TNT. A sequel series (Angel of Darkness, now designated as “season two”) was ordered but it’s now been two and a half years between seasons. Will viewers still be interested in these characters? Will The Alienist be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A period drama based on the books of Caleb Carr, season two of The Alienist stars Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, Douglas Smith, Matthew Shear, Robert Ray Wisdom, Ted Levine, Melanie Field, and Rosy McEwen. The second season, aka Angel of Darkness, takes place in New York City in 1897 where Sara Howard (Fanning) has opened a pioneering private detective agency. She reunites with formidable alienist Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl) and New York Times journalist John Moore (Evans) to find the kidnapped infant daughter of a Spanish dignitary. Their investigation leads them into a sinister path of corruption and deceit, towards a dangerous and elusive killer.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

For comparisons: Season one of The Alienist on TNT averaged a 0.41 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.77 million viewers.

I have watched both Seasons of The Alienist and LOVE IT! I have watched them 5 or six times each! EASE BRING BACK ANOTHER SEASON!
RENEW of course, that era in new york is so appealing (for TV) and its beautifully depicted, great series overall.

I hated the way season two ended. Thought the way John and Sara parted was very weak. He’s happy about the baby but not in love with Violet. Bad marriage. Felt Marcus’ death was unnecessary. The only ending that worked was Lazlo going to Vienna. It was time for him to move on with his career and have a relationship. I truly hope there is a season three, wherein; Sara realizes she can have a career and a happy marriage. The show left Sara alone with an expanding staff.
Please renew for a 3rd season, i love these kind of shows. Im on disability so all i do is watch tv, I’ve been waiting for the alienist to come back on and I’m so happy that it did. So please don’t cancel it.

I’m enjoying this show. The set design and CGI is stupendous as well as the period dialogue. The only fly in the ointment is Fanning’s wooden acting. My god, a cardboard cutout would have more appeal.

Absolutely should be renewed!, I was hooked from the first episode. The acting, the stories, the setting in 1890’s new york. The fledgling new science of forensics, a female detective, unheard of at that time. Truly intertaining and riveting!!
