NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

Loved this show….I think it wasn’t given a chance… Jennifer Carpenter is a very talented actress. Very sad to see it go.

This is ridiculous. Every time my husband and I find a decent show to watch, it gets cancelled. We loved this show. It had drama and suspense and now they have ended it with no closure whatsoever. What happens now? Can’t another channel pick up the show? #disgusted
I am sorry to see The Enemy Within not return in the fall. I can’t believe NBC felt disappointed by the retention rate like because of the Voice lead in. Those are two different audiences. I would have at least liked for them to try another night before giving it the ax. This show was brilliantly casted!

I begin to question why I start watching or get invested in any new show, when the shows are cancelled after one season. The Enemy Within had an interesting, original storyline. And once again, I’m disappointed by the network’s decision to cancel another good show.
One of the best shows on TV! Networks need to give these shows a chance. Quit cancelling the great shows and get rid of some of the fake reality shows that are bombarding us.
This show is one of the most thought provoking shows that i’ve seen in years. Overall the writing is some of the best. Another factor is that you can pretty much watch this show with almost any age group. I give it a 8.
This is one of the best new shows on TV. I can’t believe it’s canceled. Such great acting and suspense. Not to mention the action. Plus it has good rating. Jennifer Carpenter is outstanding. I guess myself and other viewers will have to go to another network for a good drama like this.

The Enemy Within was one of the best shows we have seen in a long time. Common network and NBC, keep the crap and cancel the incredible.
I LOVED this show !! I. Don’t understand how a suspenseful fast pace show with great acting & a good storyline is canceled . Maybe if they advertised the show more they would have had a better rating.
