NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

So sad We finally find a show my husband and I really love and now we find out it has been cancelled. There are too many reality shows on. Some of them should be cancelled and keep the enemy within. Seems like ratings were high enough to keep. ☹️

The Enemy Within is a great show. I’ve been watching it on Hulu. I’m all caught up and found out it’s cancelled. WOW! Bring back that show!
Idk why I even watch current series anymore… since THEY ALL GET FREAKIN CANCELED ANYWAY! As a television series aficionado, I’ll just stick to binging shows that I KNOW HAVE A DAMN ENDING!! And btw, NO ONE should be cancelling OR renewing a series until AFTER THE FINALE HAS AIRED, and everyone has had a chance to catch up. Now, I realize that may be extremely difficult considering all of the streaming services, live TV, DVR, etc, but it’s 2019; GET IT TOGETHER MARY!! It’s all total bull$h1+ and I’m OVER IT DOT COM!

I can’t believe most of my favorite shows have been cancelled. Who are making these decisions? There are way too many stupid reality shows and cartoons. Shows like The Enemy Within, Whiskey Cavalier, and The Village are all excellent shows. Maybe the networks should understand that there are a lot of us who enjoy a scripted drama and not the somewhat scripted absurdity of “reality” TV.
I completely agree. I hate reality television. I don’t like shows like the Voice. I can’t stand them!!! I prefer shows like Enemy Within!!! I am starting to lean further and further away from television and heading more to Netflix!!! Television has cancelled WAY TOO MANY GOOD SHOWS!!! I am done falling for great shows just for them to get cancelled and not have a second season!!! I DONE!!!

The Enemy Within was an interesting, gripping show because you never knew for sure what would happen and who was the enemy. I looked forward to it every week. Reconsider your decision. Sick of singing shows and mindless sit-coms.☹️
I have TOTALLY enjoyed this show! Terrible it is being cancelled! It’s amazing, considering the brainless junk that is renewed. I hope they reconsider.
The Enemy Within and The Village are excellent shows that should be kept on TV. For several weeks the Voice was a drag downward towards the end. It may have effected Enemy Within negatively.
Retain both shows.
