NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

Both myself, family and work colleagues are all devastated that you canceled the Enemy Within. It was an addictive series – could not wait until the following week. Actors were superb especially Jennifer and Morris. Please please reconsider as there are a lot of unhappy viewers out there for sure. Is there any second chances with this series?
You cancelled a really good show like this after one season and renew the awful silly half hour so called comedy shows for 6,7,and 8 seasons because the numbers are not there with the select number of people you get an opinion from. I do not understand

This was a captivating storyline and fantastic series show. Soooooo sad it is Not being renewed for 2nd series. Bah humbug execs!!!!!!
I watched the show because it replaced Manifest but to my surprise I really liked it. You had to stay focused to follow it. It was very refreshing and entertaining. I am very sorry it will not continue.
Any other example of a thoughtful show not making it and more celeb centered shows displacing them. WTF, the voice as lead in? To Drama?
My husband and I loved this show! Very interesting story line. We really get fed up with getting hooked on a show/characters and story only to have it cancelled. Why can’t networks give a show a chance??? Change the time slot etc. Netflix is becoming our go to channel.

This is exactly why I rarely watch NBC shows! They bring an excellent show, keep it for one season and then cancel! The Enemy Within is a great show and now we are all left with no end. Shame on you NBC and don’t count on me to watch any new shows…loved The Village and you cancelled it also…I’m done!

I am so disappointed that the Enemy Within is being cancelled. Why can’t a short season be done to clean up loose ends? You’re keeping New Amsterdam-which I don’t give 2 hoots about. I’m really tired of the rinky-tink way way you cancel programs. Not like the old days-shows had definite beginnings,middles & Logical endings. Really disappointed.
what the actual **** ! Cannot believe this was cancelled. A thoroughly entertaining series. And I’m somewhat of a discernable viewer. I watch shows like Homeland, The Good Wife and The Blacklist. The Blacklist; I eventually found myself bored with Reddington’s ramblings and was so glad I found this show instead. Depressing it’s not going to be back on. The story line was all set up for another season. And we still don’t know for absolute certainty what Shepherd’s intentions are / loyalties lie. The series should continue!!! NBC don’t know what the **** it’s doing! The show has drama, intrigue, sub-plots etc! Petition for it’s renewal!!!!
I’m so disappointed Enemy Within was cancelled! I love the show and looked forward to watching it every week. With nothing else on tv worth watching, this is very disappointing.
