NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

I read lots of mysteries and this program was up there with some of the best written novels. At times it did get a little slow and that would have been my one recommendation. Leave the watcher hanging on!!!
The Enemy Within was the show I looked forward to all week. Such exciting story lines. Superb acting, writing, cast, crew — so sorry to hear this. If NBC cannot maintain this stellar show, I hope that another cable network will. I have to turn off the tv now as all the good shows are gone. I can’t figure out who watches all the stupid game shows & reality shows, they have no talent & are awful. Please endeavor to keep quality shows like this one & The Village instead!
Love this show!! Stop getting rid of all the good shows and cancel the stupid reality shows and the 30 min shows that aren’t funny!!!!
every monday i can’t wait to watch enemy within. to hear it’s been cancelled ..not cool..maybe netflix or one of the other streaming apps will pick it up
Loved Enemy Within! So annoyed they canceled it and The Village but keep so many reality shows…that don’t require talent. I hope they move it to another channel!

Make sure to tune in for. Would have really like to know how far Shepard would go to keep her daughter safety and if she would really stab chenut in the back for trusting her. Let’s finish the show or change the time so people won’t be sleeping when it is aired. It’s not the show. It’s the time you put it on then you blame the show. Come on NBC
I can’t believe that NBC has cancelled both The Enemy Within and The Village. Both were very good shows with lots to keep viewers interested and intrigued. I’m so disappointed with NBC. They keep shows not worth watching and cancel the good ones.
NBC really needs to cut the people who are making the decisions. Cancelling The Village and The Enemy Within was absurb! Both were very good shows and deserved second seasons.
Not the least bit surprised by this, tried to watch the first episode and was so bored to tears from the slow pace I nearly fell asleep a few times. Needless to say never watched another.
I think that that Enemy Within should be continued. There are so FEW good show on TV, and this show should be allowed to evolve. There are so many TV shows filled with drivel. Time to up your game, TV production companies. So much of what you produce is CRAP. Keep this one around, at least for another season.

Typical! A good show with lots of intrigue and unpredictability, it’s so annoying because as a viewer you commit and enjoy a new show and then it’s cancelled! Not every show is going to #1! I certainly don’t see what’s wrong with being #7 or #10. Plenty of other shows hang in there for far too long. So disappointing! Logic is absurd as I don’t watch The Voice but fateful watched Enemy Within!
I am sorry to see it go. It was fun and twisty. The acting was superior and the story line was excellent and engrossing. I really liked the show
I am so disappointed that The Enemy Within has been cancelled. You start liking a new show and POOF. It gets cancelled. This new show was great….. I am so pissed!!!
Totally agree NBC has just cancelled all three of my programs at one time abbys the village and enemy within if it wasnt for the chicago series i would never watch NBC again
