As if a network possessed, FOX renewed The Exorcist TV show, despite hellishly low broadcast ratings in its freshman outing. While the Rance family’s story has concluded — meaning Geena Davis, Alan Ruck, Hannah Kasulka, and Brianne Howey are not returning as series regulars — the horror continues for Father Tomas Ortega (Alfonso Herrera) and former priest Marcus Keane (Ben Daniels). Should fans expect further divine intervention? Will The Exorcist be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
Based on the 1973 feature film and William Peter Blatty’s 1971 novel, The Exorcist stars Herrera, Daniels, Kurt Egyiawan, Zuleikha Robinson, John Cho, Brianna Hildebrand, and Li Jun Li. Christopher Cousins and Cyrus Arnold join the FOX horror drama this year, on a recurring basis. In the second season, Father Bennett (Egyiawan) sets out to uncover evil at the Vatican, while Keane and Ortega set off to assist troubled foster children, in the Pacific Northwest.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. For comparisons: The first season of The Exorcist on FOX averaged a 0.68 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and 1.914 million total viewers (live + same day).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.

Super show. I never miss it. I wish it was on cable though. Imagine if this show was tvma. Lol. Omfg it would be incredible! !!!! Ghouls , ghosts demons, blood, guts and boobies and naughty nuns. Now that would be a show.
I love the exorcist! Best show on television. When I’m working it’s been recorded. I think it’s a leap ahead of the other shows.
Love the show please Fox renew one of the best show on TV will be foolish not to renew the show.
It amazes me how good shows like this get canned (let’s hope not yet!), while crappy shows like the Bachelor(ette), Survivor and other Reality TV turds float on forever. If it does get the axe hopefully one of the streaming channels will pick it up.
Season 2 was so much better than season 1. I really hope it’s renewed for season 3.
This is an excellent show…..very well acted and the writing is amazing. Every week they have me sitting on the edge of my seat. Fox bring it back for season 3….the rating will increase give it time. Stop cancelling all the good shows….The Exorcist is one of them.
It’s a brilliant show, intelligently written, great characters and well acted with high production values. It is the best horror-themed show to come along in a long time. I think the second season is superior to the first. I hope the show continues for a third season and beyond.
Ben Daniels and Herrera are excellent as the priests. The show is excellent I think it comes on a bad night and time. I don’t miss it. It’s a keeper
This show is one of the best on TV, I hope Fox has the sense to green light The Exorcist for more seasons. I’m not certain we can go by ratings anymore what with DVR, On Demand, etc. For this horror fan, it is smart, creepy & edge of your seat, perfect viewing.
There are a lot of shows I like but this one makes you look over your shoulder whenever you watch it!!!!!!Keep it Fox. One of your best yet…..
Please renew this show. It is excellent. It needs more advertisement especially since we are in an era when any type of Christianity is scoffed at plus people worship reality stars bating each other. PLEASE don’t cancel.
Sure it should be renewed. The second was somewhat confusing to me, but both seasons were great, meaning they shook me up a little, and that’s the best any movie or TV show can do to me, a seasoned horror fan. Besides, there aren’t enough good horror shows on free TV
This the best movie series I have seen in a long time. The story is soo cool. I like the fact that they showed that not every unexplained behaviour is evil. Sometimes it’s the trauma we pass through. They observe be they exorcise. Not just the normal movies where everything is suspicious and the exorcisit just carry out exorcism on anybody. I’m still amazed the ratings is this low. Please Fox Tv series should be RENEWED!!!
I don’t understand why the ratings are so low when the comments are praising. I am a horror fanatic and having watched the movie at the drive-in in 1970s I love this show. I didn’t care much for the 2 sequels to The Exorcist the movie. Just didn’t compare in storyline and in cinematic. Being 7 or 8 years old watching the original, the complete head spin is still frightening.
