Is there still a future for The Kids Are Alright? Recently, star Mary McCormack spoke with The Los Angeles Times about her efforts to save the cancelled ABC TV show.
Set in the 1970s, the sitcom centers on the Clearys, an Irish-Catholic family living on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The cast includes Michael Cudlitz, Mary McCormack, Sam Straley, Caleb Foote, Sawyer Barth, Christopher Paul Richards, Jack Gore, Andy Walken, and Santino Barnard.
In the interview, McCormack says she thinks ABC cancelled The Kids Are Alright before its time:
It feels too short. It’s hard to get something really funny and nuanced and moving, and I thought our show was all those things. There’s a lot of stuff I don’t understand about how shows find new homes, but you do hear about it. And I guess because you hear about it, your fans think there’s hope. There are just so many networks now — networks I’ve never heard of. So I’m still holding out a little hope that someone will look at us and see we’re like the already housebroken cute shelter pet that needs someone to adopt them.”
What do you think? Did you watch The Kids Are Alright? Would you have watched a second season?
I was deeply saddened by this hilarious and truthful show being cancelled it really did portray the 70’s accurately and it was one of the funniest well written shows out there and I know it was never given a proper chance almost everyone I know watched it and found it to be hilarious and actors all melded and played well with each other I pray they bring it back and get rid of those other shows that are really no where near as funny or as well written like The Kids Are Alright please bring it back we need some… Read more »
Yes, I would definitely watch more seasons of this show. It is witty, fun, and truly hilarious. I looked forward to new episodes each week, and would really like to see more.
great show someone please pick it up
There is such a shortage of good comedy shows — and there’s been a shortage for quite some time, I hate to see a good one bite the dust. It was clever, well acted, pretty true to the time period — generally well written and well acted. I truly hope it can find a new home.
I can’t believe this show was ever cancelled. It was real and funny and had so many stories to tell. Cathy Helms
The Kids are alright was AWESOME!! We laughed so much!!! How could this be cancelled!! What a shame!!! GREAT cast!!
How, HOW and where do they get off canceling one of the best sitcoms ever? If anything , we need more shows that show how nice things really were with very little material things. Our world has become warped. No decent values anymore. Better to have a good book instead of the web, a great movie instead of those stupid bachelor shows. Life has lost its heart. I’m so sad for our children. What have we done?can we fix this mess we’ve created? GOD I HOPE SO.
My wife and I really liked this show. Better than many other shows that got renewed.
Yes. This show needs to come back. This show is worthy of a second chance. Well written and well acted. Loved it! Miss it very much.
I don’t understand how some shows that are not in the least bit funny or original can still be on the air?!
I really miss this show. For the first time in over a decade there was a show I really looked forward to watching. I was devastated when it was canceled. Many people feel the same way as I do. I would like to see season 1 released on dvd or bluray. Please consider bringing this gem back.
Loved the series. Cast was awesome. Great stories.
