BBC America aired the first season finale of The Last Kingdom TV show, Saturday, November 28. While it is still not clear if The Last Kingdom will be cancelled or renewed for a second season, Executive Producer Gareth Neame is already thinking about season two and teases his plans, in an interview with TV Insider.
According to Neame, if The Last Kingdom is renewed, King Alfred’s (David Dawson) season two goals will include promoting Christianity and rallying the nobles and royals to unite and kick out the Vikings. Meanwhile, Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) will face, “…very, very dark times that will test his mettle in ways that we haven’t seen in the first season. He’ll always be headstrong and impetuous, but he will start to mature.”
Here are some more second season teases from TV Insider:
What are Uhtred’s goals now?
He’ll seek out his Anglo Saxon father’s lands in the north–his birthright. And because Iseult told him “Your sister still lives,” and that’s the first he knew that she’s still alive, he decides to look for her. […]
Will Alfred be a big part of a second season?
Yeah, he is a big character. There really are two storylines. One is the main personal story of Uhtred of Bebbenburg, who’s torn between these two identities-Saxon and Dane. He is very attracted by the Viking way of life, but he wants his stolen birthright—the estates of his Saxon father– back. He has that personal quest while Alfred has a more political story. He wants to create a nation. The two stories will continue to run side by side.

Yes, I would look forward for season 2. I injoy these show…. Thank you….
Best show of the season. first thing watched when I hit my DVR. was disappointed a only getting 8 episodes but loved every one of them. I have to say I wasn’t happy ***spoiler Alert*** when Isuelt and Leofric didn’t make it to season 2. They were great characters.
I enjoyed the first season as well after every episode I looked forward to the next episode 7 did a great job of building anticipation for season 2 until the finale aired Isuelt and Leofric passing was to soon killed the connection…. if Leofric had to die it should have been in open battle vs Skorpa or young Ragnar in open battle… also didn’t understand how young Ragnar isn’t the Top dane with Skorpa dead and Gutherum converting how he did go from top 3 to Hostage ?

I would definitely watch season 2.
I’ve really enjoyed the first season. Hope they continue the show for a few more seasons. There’s still a lot of story to tell.
My husband and I love this series!!! Cannot wait for Season 2!
A great oasis in a desert of forgettable tv. I hope the last kingdom has a run of many seasons. Bernard Cornwell is a great author and the bbc has done him justice.
I loved this series. It keeps you on the edge. Really Really hope there is a season two. Would love to see if Uhtred falls in love again and has a child.
An outstanding historical fiction! Wonderfully acted, lots of interesting characters, and not overly sentimental. Bring on season 2.
BBC always has most of the best programs out there. The last kingdom is among the top 5. I was completely engulfed in the story of Uhtred. I hope this program gets at least 4-5 season! Congrats on top notch programs.
I am expecting the second season to be very captivating or more than the first one. This is more better than the Game of Thrones because it’s based on the true story of birth of England as kingdom.
Awesome! !!!!!!!
‘The Last Kingdom’ is excellent! There HAS to be a 2nd season! BBC has some very good shows…’The Musketeers’ is the best show ever created, and I love ‘The Last Kingdom’ too. Keep up the good work, BBC!
Great season. ..ive watched and re-watched on demand several times. …8 episodes weren’t enough! We need a season two. … but how about 12 episode’s. .. I’m just saying
I have looked forward each week for the next episode Just finished the last one and hoping there are more to follow. What a great show well written and kept me on the edge of my coach. Let’s go for a second season
