BBC America aired the first season finale of The Last Kingdom TV show, Saturday, November 28. While it is still not clear if The Last Kingdom will be cancelled or renewed for a second season, Executive Producer Gareth Neame is already thinking about season two and teases his plans, in an interview with TV Insider.
According to Neame, if The Last Kingdom is renewed, King Alfred’s (David Dawson) season two goals will include promoting Christianity and rallying the nobles and royals to unite and kick out the Vikings. Meanwhile, Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) will face, “…very, very dark times that will test his mettle in ways that we haven’t seen in the first season. He’ll always be headstrong and impetuous, but he will start to mature.”
Here are some more second season teases from TV Insider:
What are Uhtred’s goals now?
He’ll seek out his Anglo Saxon father’s lands in the north–his birthright. And because Iseult told him “Your sister still lives,” and that’s the first he knew that she’s still alive, he decides to look for her. […]
Will Alfred be a big part of a second season?
Yeah, he is a big character. There really are two storylines. One is the main personal story of Uhtred of Bebbenburg, who’s torn between these two identities-Saxon and Dane. He is very attracted by the Viking way of life, but he wants his stolen birthright—the estates of his Saxon father– back. He has that personal quest while Alfred has a more political story. He wants to create a nation. The two stories will continue to run side by side.
What do you think? Did you watch season one of The Last Kingdom TV show? Do you enjoy this series about the founding of England? If the show is renewed for a second season, do you plan to watch? Tell us.
Loved it!!! Next season please!
wish it were more than 8 too. that said, they got more resolution in 8 than typical AMerican series does in 12/+ who develop increasing number of storylines even as some resolve.
Definitely a couple unresolved here, cant wait til season 2. hope they get it funded.
Oh for heaven’s sake bring this series back for more! It’s hard to find programs with this kind of depth and passion, and with decent history woven in to boot! And we’ve barely scratched the surface thus far. I’ll tune in!
Please do more. I read the books, and the shows are great also.
Yes, enjoyed The Last Kingdom overall. Looking forward to a second season.
There had better be more or I will look someone up. Just kidding. Very well done. Great TV. Good production values. Great battle scenes, a necessity, were very well done. Uhtred is essentially decent. Great to root for a liberty loving hero.
The series is very well made, and hews closely to the first book in the series. It gives a pretty accurate portrayal of life in Britain in the late 9th Century. The actors are superb! Set design is great, and there are no obvious anachronisms. Well worth watching. I certainly hope there is a second season.
Please, please renew!! Excellent story line – it doesn’t matter how well it is filmed and how great the fight scenes are (and both were great!), you have to have a well-written script. Loved it.
Oh they DEFINITELY don’t make enough episodes in a season. I was surprised to find out that ‘The Last Kingdom’ only had 8. The best show that BBC makes, ‘The Musketeers’, has 10 episodes per season, and they film from April through November…it takes that long because of the weapons training and choreography that the actors need to learn for the fight scenes and stuff.
I’m from Puerto Rico and watched the show through BBC America. I hope to see season 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 . . . Love the show! I’m a big fan!
Loved every minute of it…
Must be a season 2…
Can’t wait……….
I Loved the first Season of The Last Kingdom .. Please Renew the Show for More Seasons! I will definitely watch it !
Yes , please , renewed for a second season !
Yes, yes and yes!
I can’t believe I didn’t find this series on my own. Tell me, J king, what do you like about it?
Looking forward to your next season in which I am hoping for more than 8 episodes!
Hey Jan, I am right there with you. As an American, I’m quite used to the 22 episode series format. A lot of UK series seem to have between six and eight episodes. That’s not enough for me.
What do you like about “The Last Kingdom”?
It was great, watched whole season in two days. Each episode made me want to watch another. They must have a second season. I am very upset that Iseult died though. I want to see the story continued.
It is a great show hope they do a season 2
