In its first season, The Orville TV ranked as a top-five FOX TV series. Was that just beginner’s luck or, can it soar to new Nielsen ratings heights in the second season? Will The Orville be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A FOX science-fiction dramedy, The Orville stars Seth MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, Halston Sage, J Lee, and Mark Jackson. The action-adventure series centers on Captain Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane), of The U.S.S. Orville, and First Officer Kelly Grayson (Palicki) — his ex-wife. Whether facing off with the Krill, a dangerous alien race, or attempting rescues on behalf of the Planetary Union, the human and alien crew still must deal with their mundane issues and each other.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
4/26 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.

For comparisons: The first season of The Orville on FOX averaged a 1.25 rating in the 18-49 year-old demographic and 4.33 million total viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Orville TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a third season on FOX?
*5/11/19 update: FOX has renewed The Orville TV show for a third season.
Please don’t cancel the Orville. It’s a great show that is fun and the perfect mix of humor, tech and action.
Only show I look forward to all week and honestly the only show I watch that isn’t a news, documentary or sports show.
As a life-long Star Trek fan, it pains me to admit this, but the Orville is better Star Trek than the current excuse, Star Trek: Discovery, which feels like soul-less self- flagellation. The Orville reminds me of STOS through STNG. Good stories that probe socially relevant topics, a sprinkling of humor, and good characters. Thumbs up to The Union!
I love season 2 of The Orville! It’s become more serious but there is still comedy relied! Such a good show and I don’t understand why people don’t like Seth’s acting. He’s great and I hope to see a season 3!
Havn’t laughed once in season 2 and I’m going to stop watching the show. Ive kind of had enough with the gay aliens too. Season 2 is just a flop.
The Orville is everything that ‘Star Trek’ should be, but currently isn’t. It explores complex issues without beating the audience over the head with PC lecturing, and it is knows how to have FUN! You remember fun, right? The Trouble with Tribbles? Hollow Pursuits? Our Man Bashir? Do any of these ring a bell? And is it any real suprise that the guest stars and even directors feature alumni of actual Star Trek. Definitely renew it for season 3! Me and my kids will be looking forward to it 🙂
I bailed on the show, the humor is middle school and Seth’s acting is horrible. The show has slip in the rating. They were talks about canceling it last year and the talks are back now that they are dipping in the low 3 mil views. Don’t get wrong, that is good ratings…. For a CW Show…
I enjoyed The Orville a lot in season 1, season 2 is terrible. I gave up. Just stupid this year.
Love every episode. Maybe a bit more comedy…fun.
I have enjoyed each episode. Tickled by them in fact. We need more Orville please! Yes to season 3! Please?!
This show started out trying to be funny (without really succeeding) then toned down the “humour” in favour of more Star Trek-like offerings (without really succeeding). That was season one. Season two is just silly, and reached a new level of silliness with the episode about dating a robot. I’m done.
So you’re upset that this is no longer like Star Trek? That’s a good thing
I was very pleasantly surprised with the 1st season of The Orville and that has continued throughout season 2. Fox has had a lot of success with Seth MacFarlane’s shows and I see no reason for that to stop now. It’s time for Fox to sign on for at least a couple more seasons!
I think The Orville is creative, fresh and full of fun! I hope there will be a Season 3 and beyond!
I like the show ! I hope they do a season 3 .
I used to like the show. Tonight’s episode changed that. Unwatchable. There’s no pride in the writing. The lighting is awful.
What did not please you?
Agree with you 100%
I Really like the Orville very much. I think the stories this season are better than last season’s.
I agree. I think this Season is even better than the last. But I don’t know how to vote for it.
I can’t believe this show’s season premiere was basically a domestic love triangle soap opera? I could not believe the stupidity of the producers to actually even allow such boring tripe to represent a prime time show. Fans of Star Trek are cringing. It was the type of show you do when you have been cancelled, have no money to spend on special FX or locations, and just don’t care what you put on the screen. Going through the motions. And that was their premiere episode?? A deliberate attempt to get Canceled is the only thing that makes sense. The… Read more »
I think this season is good! A little change does do good; everything so please if you don’t like it that’s your opinion. but other people like it.
Exactly my thoughts!
The only time this fan of Star Trek cringes is if I am unlucky enough to catch even a glimpse of Discovery. The Orville is everything Trek should be, but currently isnt.
