Aside from racking up impressive series premiere ratings (thanks to a special timeslot), The Resident TV show had something of a lackluster freshman outing on FOX. After eking out a second season renewal, can it prove it is just what the doctor ordered? Will The Resident be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. **Status update below.
A FOX medical drama, The Resident stars Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, Manish Dayal, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Jane Leeves, Glenn Morshower, and Bruce Greenwood. The series centers on resident Dr. Devon Pravesh (Dayal), as well as Senior Resident Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Czuchry), and their colleagues at the Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. Although its motto is, “Committed to excellence,” the hospital is staffed with human beings, and humans are flawed. Now that Devon is on the other side of the institution’s velvet ropes, Conrad wants him to understand the reality of medicine and its delivery.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/6 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The first season of The Resident on FOX averaged a 1.02 rating and a total audience of 4.543 million viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Resident TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a third season on FOX?
*3/25/19 update: FOX has renewed The Resident for a third season.
Terrific show. Don’t cancel!
Please don’t cancel the resident! It’s one of the few good shows on TV!
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THE RESIDENT! IT’S ONE OF THE FEW GOOD SHOWS ON TV!
Not enjoying Season Three one bit. I do not like Morris Chestnut as Dr. Cain, and Vince Foster as Dr. Chu, yuck on the show. They ruined the show. If the show gets cancel, it’s because of the new storylines and bad acting from the newbies. All the originals characters fit . They got chemistry, even when Dr. Bell was being bad, all the characters just fit. These two just throws everything off, which make for Bad Boring The Resident Season Three show. Jane’s needs more storyline.
Great show!
Feedback on Season 1, Episode 2, Minute 27 – Bar scene, doctor buys a woman a drink and orders soda water himself. She turns to him and in a very snarky and disgusted tone says “Let me guess, you’re in AA”. To which he responds “No, I’m on call”. She says in a flirtatious voice “Oh you are a doctor, huh?” and scoots close to him. AA is supposed to stay out of press, radio, and films as per our 10 traditions… which includes shows. The woman could say “12 step”, or better yet, say “you’re sober?” with some admiration… Read more »
I love this show pleas don’t cancel.
A really good show. I hope they keep Stephanie Hunt in next season.
Please don’t cancel the Resident. We wait to watch every Monday night. Maybe some better marketing instead of canceling.
