What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the AMC cable channel, The Son stars Pierce Brosnan, Henry Garrett, Sydney Lucas, Carlos Bardem, Jacob Lofland, Zahn McClarnon, Paola Núñez, David Wilson Barnes, Jess Weixler, and Elizabeth Frances. The series, which is simulcast on SundanceTV, follows three generations of the McCullough family and features the metamorphosis of Eli McCullough (Brosnan). The family patriarch, Eli, changes over the years from an affable innocent into a conniving killer.
After losing everything on the wild frontier, Eli rebounds to build a lasting ranching and oil dynasty and, in time, grows exceedingly wealthy. In flashbacks, The Son also recounts the relationship between young Eli (Lofland) and Comanche war chief Toshaway (McClarnon), who served as his father figure. Throughout, The Son delves into the rise of the McCullough family empire.
Season One Ratings
The first season of The Son averaged a 0.16 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.39 million viewers. Find out how The Son stacks up against other AMC TV shows.
On May 12, 2017, The Son was renewed for a second season which will debut April 27, 2019. That will be the final season. Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
This show premiered to mediocre ratings and the numbers have not gotten any better in later weeks. Still, The Son TV show airs on Saturday nights and AMC has a few other shows that air on weekdays and are performing worse. The cable channel could easily cancel The Son but they could keep it around because they have Pierce Brosnan as a star. I’m keeping an eye on this one. What do you think? Are you glad that The Son TV show has been renewed for a second season? How would you feel if AMC had cancelled this TV series, instead?
I highly recommend it! Pierce Brosnan is wonderful as usual and Sydney Lucas, an amazing new actress, is stunning as Jeannie McCullough.
The “Son” is an amazing series, loved it!! I can’t wait for Season 2.
Please renew it is such a great show
Renew. We enjoyed it.
Love the Son. Would be so disappointed if it was cancelled. I read the book and the series doesn’t follow the book very well but I don’t care. Simply enjoy the series and hope it will have several seasons.
Just watched the finale of the Son and can’t imagine how upset I would be if this had been cancelled. I’m upset I have to wait until 2018 for next season. I have a few questions I can’t wait to be answered. Love this show so much. Thanks for Renewing it. Like so many shows on the list of cancelled items that I really like I am so grateful this one isn’t ending.
My husband and I look forward to watching every Saturday night. We are looking forward to seeing season Two. Please don’t cancel it.
I have read the book twice and although the tv version varies in many instantces, I still have enjoyed watching it..Please don’t cancel it…
I love love this show. The best ever. Please don’t cancal
I’ll tell you honestly, the first three episodes were decent at best. They all had one or two wow-scenes (like in the beginning of ep. 3, which shocked me so much, I had to turn away for a moment), but overall it felt like you could cut 10 minutes out of each episode and it would not loose anything, it was all very slowly paced. But the next three episodes (4-6) were terrific! The amount of action and dialogue is spot on, and its very gripping and tense. You simply can’t take your eyes away from the screen! Brosnan is… Read more »
My husband are watching The Son together. We love every riveting minute of it. Yes sometimes it’s ruff to watch but I’m a big girl. The storyline is very very good and we hope so badly that the show will air to completion of the novel. Thanks to AMC for airing it.
I’ve been following Brosnan’s career since Remington Steele, but he appears to be severely miscast with this show. One cannot be a believable native Texan with a muddled Irish-British accent.
You should watch Seraphim Falls
Love this show! Please do not cancel.
I hope it renews for season 2. Absolutely love the show.
When I read a review of this new show,”The Son” on AMC,I decided to tune in to watch the premiere, enjoyed it. Its a well written show with a wonderful cast. Its great to see Pierce Brosnan in a totally different TV role. His last TV role was 30yrs co-starring with Stephanie Zimbalist on my favorite 80’s detective series,”Remington Steele”. Pierce wasn’t the 1st choice for the role of”Eli”,Sam Neill was but he dropped out.I can’t picture anybody but PB in this role. I know its a limited run of 10 episodes,I hope the network renews it considering I don’t watch much… Read more »
I am so sick and tired of networks cancelling good shows after only one or several viewings. Remember Seinfeld? It had poor ratings at first and now it is a TV classic! There aren’t many good dramas currently on TV. I do NOT consider the “Walking Dead” et al dramas. I’m tired of so many new shows about the lives of millenials. When are the networks going to take more notice of what the over 50 audience is looking for? Now “Grace & Frankie”, THAT’s a GREAT show that my age group can relate to and it’s funny as heck.… Read more »
Yes please stop cancelling shows so easily. Give them a chance to gain an audience. I’ve already gotten two other families watching after I told them about The Son.
The ratings for this show will be EVEN WORSE next season. What audience is it going to gain? SYFY said Wynonna Earp had a loyal following, which is why they renewed it after it averaged a 0.13 last season, which is despicable. What were the numbers for the first episode this season? 0.09! You live in FANTASYLAND!
The issue is there are so many options these days on various forums, so the audiences are split amongst many shows. A viewer cannot watch everything that is produced.
