Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I think the cast has real chemistry. They are quick and funny. I like the back story and the trama stories in each episode. Show should be kept. Maybe promote more with some guest stars to start.
Love Trauma! Why do they cancell all the good ones! They leave on such crap and take of the really good ones
It figures NBC would cancel another great show. The exec’s at NBC have no idea with the public watches. They cancelled Southland which was a great show that got picked up by TNT, and now Trauma; no wander they are always in last place in the Neilson’s. Who makes these decisions?
U gotta keep Trauma on. It can be as good or better than ER. Great show.
UGH! KEEP TRAUMA!!!!! I love it! We love everything about the show. I just noticed that it’s going to be airing again on Monday, March 8th, 2010 but have also read that there are only a couple more episodes! 🙁 I looked forward to watching Trauma to see what was going to happen next! Come on NBC… Bring back another season! 🙂
I think these episodes that are coming on are the remaining ones that were filmed last season. I don’t think Trauma is back to stay unfortunately. 🙁
It is going to be on Monday night at 9:oo est. Don’t know for how long but at last it is back for now!!!!! We need to let them know we want it to stay!!!! PLEASE don’t take it away!!!!!
trauma is one of the best shows on tv today, there are others that are worst than that one
My husband saw on his JEMS website (EMTs) that they are bringing Trauma back for a few new episodes this month- lets hope they dont mess it up and take it right back off again!
I THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT.. SAD TO SEE IT GO.. THEY SHOULD GET RID OF THOSE “””REALITY”” SHOWS, THEY SUCK…
i absolutely love trauma and mercy i’m sad that it’s not going to be on anymore
I have never really got hooked on a show and the first episode got me hooked! I loved the plot and whee it was going. Why the heck would they cancel it! How depressing! I think they should absolutly bring it back!!
What the heck is wrong with NBC??? Are they stupid? Why would you cancel Trauma for a show like Mercy? Trauma had romance, action, drama and suspense in each episode! If people weren’t watching it was probably because 1. Its on NBC 2. It wasn’t promoted equally with other shows 3. You can’t judge a show by 1 season. This is once again why I avoid NBC.
I have been waiting for this show to return. Really dissappointed that it was canceled. Never have been able to get into Mercy. I watch Greys so one hospital show is enough. Nothing else on tv was like Trama. Great actors, great story, and was really getting to know the characters. Too bad, it was on it’s way to be a hit. I’m with the others. What’s up NBC?
i LOVED this show!! i am a firefighter and when its time to cool down at night i looked forward to watching this show the most b/c i could relate to it! i’m sick of two and a half men and shows like that and watching law and order all the time!! we need real shows about REAL life! i LOVE mercy too! but BRING TRAUMA BACK!
