The citizens of Hope Valley will return for the 2021-22 television season. Hallmark Channel has renewed the When Calls the Heart TV show for a ninth year.
A Western family drama series, When Calls the Heart stars Erin Krakow, Jack Wagner, Pascale Hutton, Kavan Smith, Paul Greene, Andrea Brooks, Chris McNally, and Kevin McGarry. Others in the cast include Andrea Brooks, Martin Cummins, Aren Buchholz, Eva Bourne, Loretta Walsh, Kayla Wallace, Johannah Newmarch, Teryl Rothery, Hrothgar Mathews, Ben Rosenbaum, Jaeda Lily Miller, Donovan Stinson, Jonathan Purvis, Gracyn Shinyei, Kadence Roach, Christian Michael Cooper, Gunnar Taylor, and Lincoln Taylor. Inspired by the Janette Oke novel, the TV series follows Elizabeth Thatcher (Krakow), a young teacher from a high society background. She’s assigned to teach in a coal country classroom and it’s a life-changing experience. Now a widow and single mother, Elizabeth faces new challenges but has the support of her surrogate town family, including mysterious gambler Lucas Bouchard (McNally) and Mountie Nathan Grant (McGarry). In season eight, Elizabeth’s relationships with Nathan and Lucas continue to deepen, Faith (Brooks) and Carson (Greene) must make choices about their future, a new family arrives in town, Lee (Smith) and Rosemary (Hutton) get some unexpected news, Bill (Wagner) is asked to return a prized possession and the whole town joins in the excitement as another wedding takes place.
The eighth season of When Calls the Heart averages a 0.19 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.38 million viewers in the live+same day ratings. Compared to season seven, that’s down by 19% in the demo and down by 1% in viewership.
The eighth season finale aired tonight and Krakow announced the renewal once it had finished airing.

Season 8 was fabulous. Characters are growing, storyline is great, finale was what I had hoped for. Yay Lucas and Elizabeth and the season ended with me eager for next year
The season is too short, not enough content this season. It just started and now it’s over. Love Lee and Rosemary story line.
So happy Elizabeth chose Lucas! Season 8 showed Elizabeth’s feisty side and it made her a more realistic character. I hope the Abigail character does NOT return next season.
Lucas was always very mindful of and sensitive to Elizabeth’s feelings. A real game-changer IMHO. Really enjoy the other story lines as well…great cast. Please consider bringing back Abigail. “Let he who is without blame cast the first stone.”
I loved season 8 but I am a tried and true Heartie♥️For 8 seasons now. I am thrilled Elizabeth chose Lucas and just swooned delightedly over the finale and all that romance! I am sooo excited for season 9. There is so much potential for Hope Valley right now. It’s a very exciting time for the town and all the changes that seem to want to happen.Thank you for this fabulous season 8. I hope the series will continue with 12 episodes. Yes, faithful watch WCTH. Can’t wait for Season 8. Will miss not watching it on Sunday nights. Thanks for not not canceling this great show.

I did not like the way Lucas used the his mother to help Elizabeth write her book, and the way he used the saloon and the chef to have special meal that Nathan was able to use.
Very disapointed with that finale. A widow and at that time in history would never behave like Elizabeth. Unless didn’t have a good upbring, what is not her case. Choose Lucas? Sorry but they do not have chemistry at all. Lucas is not a well developed character. She is so whinny, unberable. I watch WCTH because the other story lines, she’s annoying. And already matching Nathan and Faith? Wow, just wow. And I guess they are preparing the viewers for Lori’s comeback, what if it happens then will be a definitely bye-bye.
I love WCTH. I will definitely be watching Season 9.

Not sure I will watch season 9. So disappointed in Elizabeth’s choice of who she THINKS she is in love with. I think Lucas is not to be trusted. Did not like how he has treated Nathan.
Love this show! So glad it’s having a season 9. I actually went back and watched seasons 1-8 again.
i will watch Season 9 only if Lori Loughlin is brought back and Elizabeth comes to her senses and realized she is truly IN LOVE with Nathan.
Disappointed Elizabeth chose Lucas over Nathan, but glad Hope Valley characters have another season to tell THEIR stories. Love Lee & Rosemary, Fiona, Clara & Jessie, Canfields, Ned & Bill, well, everyone. Glad WCTH was renewed, looking forward to next season
