Eileen’s pursuit of the truth won’t continue into the 2023-24 network season. ABC has cancelled Alaska Daily, so there won’t be a second season.
A drama series, the Alaska Daily TV show stars Hilary Swank, Jeff Perry, Matt Malloy, Meredith Holzman, Grace Dove, Pablo Castelblanco, Ami Park, and Craig Frank. Eileen Fitzgerald (Swank) is an award-winning investigative journalist and high-powered newspaper reporter in New York. Her reporting methods and abrasive personality are called into question after a high-profile story blows up in her face, and Eileen loses her job. Her former mentor, Stanley Cornik (Perry), approaches her about making a big move, and she goes to work for a struggling downsized Anchorage newspaper, the Daily Alaskan. Grudgingly, Eileen teams up with a young local reporter named Roz Friendly (Dove). Together, they begin investigating the murders of a group of indigenous women. Eileen is on a journey to find personal and professional redemption in a new locale, across the country, and in a very different world.
Airing on Thursday nights, the first season of Alaska Daily averaged a 0.23 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.84 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). It was one of ABC’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and a middle-of-the-road performer in total viewers, when compared to other shows on the network.
The show nearly doubled its viewership in the live+7 day ratings, but that was apparently not good enough to secure a second-season renewal.
The first season of 11 episodes finished airing on March 30th.
What do you think? Have you enjoyed watching the Alaska Daily TV series on ABC? Are you disappointed this show wasn’t renewed for a second season? Were you expecting a cancellation?
This show needs to be on the air. It had a great cast, great acting, and quality content. It was so refreshing to see a show that mattered and was relevant—a show that could actually make a difference as well as entertain. Once again, very disappointed in ABC. It’s actually the first show I’ve enjoyed on their network in years.
Very upset that there is not going to be a second series, this is based on truth and as such there needs to be much more awareness. This in turn could save precious lives, also help defend vulnerable women and girls.
So frustrating, networks often seem to cater only to the lowest common denominator. Leaving the reat of us who enjoy some substance to our programming to find alternatives. I’ll miss this show.
Very disappointed that this show has been canceled. It was a great show! Why do networks do this? One season is not enough to give a show a chance! Very disappointed in this network!
Very sad to see Alaska daily go. It truly seams the smart best show are always canceled. Very disappointed
Im very sad that this show was canceled! I enjoyed the show very much. I thought the story of the women was very important to get the message out about missing native american women which is very devastating to learn about and that nothing is being done about it.
Was a very well written and well acted show and deserved a second season
Shame on ABC for canceling a show that is so relevant now. It was well written and bringing to light the real plight of the missing that dont get the attention they deserve. All about money instead of the message.
I am so very disappointed this show was not continued. I hardly watch TV, in fact, this was the only series I was tunning in to watch. I am absolutely saddened and miserable I wont be able to watch my favorite series. Is it just me? When Samantha Who was on TV it was my favorite, too, then it cancelled after two seasons. Maybe Hulu can pick it up from ABC?
That would be awesome! I hope someone is smart enough to pick it up.
What a bunch of BS. One of the best shows on ABC.Just Another reason why not to watch .
I am so disappointed that Alaska Daily has not been renewed for a second season. My husband and u thought the storylines were believable, well written, and well acted. There is a lot of crap on tv but I did not count Alaska Daily as part of that number.
How absolutely disappointing to hear this great show has been canceled! I wish they would change their minds. There was much to love and admire about this series, not the least of which was the messaging and fine acting talent.
Shame, good storyline, good acting. But people have really turned off the TV, I think. Today a top show is lucky to get 10 million viewers, it wasn’t too long ago when shows routinely could get 30 million.
this is a great show, about important topics. well written, well cast, great performance ! so nice to see something that isnt mind-numbing ‘reality’
please don’t cancel!!
Too bad ABC has cancelled Alaska Daily, it was good entertainment!
It’s a shame that when Hollywood finally produces a good TV show they cancel it.
Instead some studio decides to do a remake of The Wonder Years, the African American version which failed.
Hollywood needs to hire creative people NOT lazy people who use just remake shows.
Thanks for listening
