Eileen’s pursuit of the truth won’t continue into the 2023-24 network season. ABC has cancelled Alaska Daily, so there won’t be a second season.
A drama series, the Alaska Daily TV show stars Hilary Swank, Jeff Perry, Matt Malloy, Meredith Holzman, Grace Dove, Pablo Castelblanco, Ami Park, and Craig Frank. Eileen Fitzgerald (Swank) is an award-winning investigative journalist and high-powered newspaper reporter in New York. Her reporting methods and abrasive personality are called into question after a high-profile story blows up in her face, and Eileen loses her job. Her former mentor, Stanley Cornik (Perry), approaches her about making a big move, and she goes to work for a struggling downsized Anchorage newspaper, the Daily Alaskan. Grudgingly, Eileen teams up with a young local reporter named Roz Friendly (Dove). Together, they begin investigating the murders of a group of indigenous women. Eileen is on a journey to find personal and professional redemption in a new locale, across the country, and in a very different world.
Airing on Thursday nights, the first season of Alaska Daily averaged a 0.23 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.84 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). It was one of ABC’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and a middle-of-the-road performer in total viewers, when compared to other shows on the network.
The show nearly doubled its viewership in the live+7 day ratings, but that was apparently not good enough to secure a second-season renewal.
The first season of 11 episodes finished airing on March 30th.

My husband and I are very disappoined to see that Alsska Daily has not been renewed. It is levels above most programs available ! We recorded it and looked forward to settling in to watch each episode….
Was an excellent show will miss it
Very disappointed. It had strong plot lines and acting. It portrayed a part of the landscape and people not seen often. It also showed the importance of journalism. The title of one of the last episodes was “Slow Bullet”. I didn’t know why until the end of the show when a newsroom manager mentioned the powerful result of a published investigation as a “slow bullet”–it took a while, but it was effective. So was this show. Very disappointed. Maybe another network will pick it up.
We really enjoyed Alaska Daily. It was engaging & interesting & didn’t rely on scantily clad females to try to get your attention.

And it was educating people on a huge problem for indigenous women. Why aren’t all the activists complaining as well???
I’m done watching anymore new shows!! It’s really getting sickening they cancel the good shoes and renew the reality junk! I’m done!

I regret the decision of ABC network to cancel the series Alaska Daily. I enjoyed the interaction of the ensemble cast where each character was strong enough to handle a story based on roles they have played during past shows. This was an adult aimed carefully developed story line and I suppose the lack of dead bodies in the story line made it a nonstarter for the current TV audience.
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL ALASKA DAILY! It was the best show of the season!!! You MUST bring it back!

One of my favorite shows. I loved the story line bringing awareness to the indigenous people. Hilary Swank and cast of actors were awesome. I’m so DISAPPOINTED knowing Alaska Daily won’t be returning.
So disappointed this got cancelled , it was timely fantastic story line , good TV. Everyone I told about it loved it .. so this is sad .
