Eileen’s pursuit of the truth won’t continue into the 2023-24 network season. ABC has cancelled Alaska Daily, so there won’t be a second season.
A drama series, the Alaska Daily TV show stars Hilary Swank, Jeff Perry, Matt Malloy, Meredith Holzman, Grace Dove, Pablo Castelblanco, Ami Park, and Craig Frank. Eileen Fitzgerald (Swank) is an award-winning investigative journalist and high-powered newspaper reporter in New York. Her reporting methods and abrasive personality are called into question after a high-profile story blows up in her face, and Eileen loses her job. Her former mentor, Stanley Cornik (Perry), approaches her about making a big move, and she goes to work for a struggling downsized Anchorage newspaper, the Daily Alaskan. Grudgingly, Eileen teams up with a young local reporter named Roz Friendly (Dove). Together, they begin investigating the murders of a group of indigenous women. Eileen is on a journey to find personal and professional redemption in a new locale, across the country, and in a very different world.
Airing on Thursday nights, the first season of Alaska Daily averaged a 0.23 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.84 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). It was one of ABC’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and a middle-of-the-road performer in total viewers, when compared to other shows on the network.
The show nearly doubled its viewership in the live+7 day ratings, but that was apparently not good enough to secure a second-season renewal.
The first season of 11 episodes finished airing on March 30th.

Once again ABC cancels a great show! First they cancel The Company You Keep and now Alaska Daily. Unbelievable! Hoping a wiser network will pick it up. It looks like I won’t be watching ABC anymore except for Will Trent. Please tell me that at least that show is safe.

I’m so disappointed ! Hillary Swank is wonderful and the script is based on truth about missing and murdered indigenous women, something that is common here in Canada also.
Perfect… cancel a show with a two time Oscar winner and quality content. The executives are only looking at sponsor profits, they could care less about quality programming.
ABC, NBC are canceling great shows that people want and watch. Then those who stream binge or older than 49 are not counted. Further both networks have new trash coming out but most from another country. Another series with true stories about today as well over decades.
ABC own Hulu they can’t even keep the app running correctly. Simply put we’re pretty much done with local network.

Please do not cancel. This show is smart entertainment. The acting is fabulous, the script is beautifully written, and highlighting indigenous Americans is worthy of praise. Big mistake!!!!
This is a terrible decision by ABC. Alaska Daily is a great show, with intelligent writing and outstanding acting highlighting an important message. Apparently that is not enough in today’s television world. It is very disappointing that it is more important to highlight people of low moral standing, such as on Succession, than those who are trying to do good in the world.

I am tired of finding a good show only to not have it renewed. Some of the show that get renewed are not fit to be watched yet there they are. It was originally renewed. What happened
