Eileen’s pursuit of the truth won’t continue into the 2023-24 network season. ABC has cancelled Alaska Daily, so there won’t be a second season.
A drama series, the Alaska Daily TV show stars Hilary Swank, Jeff Perry, Matt Malloy, Meredith Holzman, Grace Dove, Pablo Castelblanco, Ami Park, and Craig Frank. Eileen Fitzgerald (Swank) is an award-winning investigative journalist and high-powered newspaper reporter in New York. Her reporting methods and abrasive personality are called into question after a high-profile story blows up in her face, and Eileen loses her job. Her former mentor, Stanley Cornik (Perry), approaches her about making a big move, and she goes to work for a struggling downsized Anchorage newspaper, the Daily Alaskan. Grudgingly, Eileen teams up with a young local reporter named Roz Friendly (Dove). Together, they begin investigating the murders of a group of indigenous women. Eileen is on a journey to find personal and professional redemption in a new locale, across the country, and in a very different world.
Airing on Thursday nights, the first season of Alaska Daily averaged a 0.23 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.84 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). It was one of ABC’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and a middle-of-the-road performer in total viewers, when compared to other shows on the network.
The show nearly doubled its viewership in the live+7 day ratings, but that was apparently not good enough to secure a second-season renewal.
The first season of 11 episodes finished airing on March 30th.

Network cares more about making money by satisfying people who want every show to involve violence, crime, and gore. But shows that deal with the “real” issues behind those types of shows get canceled. Shame Hollywood doesn’t understand that they are largely responsible for the acting out of these crimes by disgruntled unstable individuals every day in real life. By the amount of other comments it appears I am not alone in my disappointment in canceling Alaska Daily.
Sad to see such a quality program not get renewed for a 2nd season. Hillary Swank was excellent and the rest of the cast was as well. It was also a topic that deserved additional exposure in the media. Hopefully another network can pick up the show.
Sad to see this one go. I think it could have been hyped a little more. Hilary Swank is a draw, but the entire cast was phenomenal. I loved the story line(s) and there was some work happening within the script that actually translates to real life and that is the rape/murder/disappearance of native women in North America (Alaska and otherwise). I wish this good work would have continued.

I am completely heart-broken that Alaskan Daily series was canceled. I really loved that show. Now I’ll never be able to watch the show ever again, including the cliff-hanger.

Are you kidding, best show on TV, everyone I know loves it. Something exciting and new. No one is happy about it. I think you need to reconsider. Hilary Swank is the best. Great show. BIG MISTAKE
This bites, it was a great show. Given all the bashing of the news media, a show with a positive bent for the troubles of a local newspaper and how hard it is to get a story to press might help the image of the media. Hilary Swank and all the actors did a great job. It also got out the story of all the missing indigenous women.
I can’t believe those idiots canceled show. Was one of the best series available.and yet they renewed some really poor shows
I would really like to see the show Alaska Daily continue, it has great writing, structure, full characters and and relatable, interesting and well rounded storylines. The subjects and issues it addresses are important, well rounded and give voice to people and circumstances which have just as much an equal stance on the worlds stage as any others, Alaska Daily is unique, refreshing and a welcome addition to other shows we equally enjoy.
Was hoping for a season 2. Good show with a unique story to follow.

Alaska Daily was one of the most real scripted shows. It’s a shame it was cancelled. It should be given another chance. The characters and stories were so compelling and important
