Eileen’s pursuit of the truth won’t continue into the 2023-24 network season. ABC has cancelled Alaska Daily, so there won’t be a second season.
A drama series, the Alaska Daily TV show stars Hilary Swank, Jeff Perry, Matt Malloy, Meredith Holzman, Grace Dove, Pablo Castelblanco, Ami Park, and Craig Frank. Eileen Fitzgerald (Swank) is an award-winning investigative journalist and high-powered newspaper reporter in New York. Her reporting methods and abrasive personality are called into question after a high-profile story blows up in her face, and Eileen loses her job. Her former mentor, Stanley Cornik (Perry), approaches her about making a big move, and she goes to work for a struggling downsized Anchorage newspaper, the Daily Alaskan. Grudgingly, Eileen teams up with a young local reporter named Roz Friendly (Dove). Together, they begin investigating the murders of a group of indigenous women. Eileen is on a journey to find personal and professional redemption in a new locale, across the country, and in a very different world.
Airing on Thursday nights, the first season of Alaska Daily averaged a 0.23 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.84 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). It was one of ABC’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and a middle-of-the-road performer in total viewers, when compared to other shows on the network.
The show nearly doubled its viewership in the live+7 day ratings, but that was apparently not good enough to secure a second-season renewal.
The first season of 11 episodes finished airing on March 30th.

Loved this show!! Very upset it’s been cancelled!! So nice to have something different besides medical or police shows to watch. Very disappointed with ABC!!!

Just started watching and it is a terrific show. So disappointed it was cancelled. Cannot imagine why.

This is a super show – entertaining AND sure is informative! What the heck is the reason for cancelling? Perhaps the subject matter isnt what the current political climate wants to hear? Frankly, after a steady diet of political lying for the past 6 or 7 years – this show was a bright light.

another disaster for abc. this ws a great show and hillary swank is great in the series. ABC get your act together and listen to what people want to see.
I cannot believe that the show was canceled!! I am in shock. I was thrilled when I heard that Hillary was coming to television, she is one of the greatest actresses we have today and we do not get to see her enough. The show was intelligent and dealt with a subject matter that is very real and problematic in our country and needs to be kept in the forefront of our consciousness. This is a sad day for quality television.
It was a great show. ..so much better than the mush that’s on most of the time! Was it too political? Did it point out truths that people didn’t want to hear? I will truly miss this show!

I loved Alaska Daily! ABC has very few shows worth watching but this show had a wonderful cast, the writing was excellent and the topic had real issues that need to be addressed. Bring Alaska Daily back! ABC needs a powerful series like this one.

This. Series was refreshingly brilliant in ever aspect! It was so great to have a show sosososo different from all the usual bs that gets aired Hillary swank and the characters and cast that played along side her brought a insanely human realness and unbeatable strength to the roles and the show itself with everything it touched on well… about bloody time!
