American Idol is making some changes to its schedule as the live shows quickly approach. ABC and the powers that be are still trying to figure out how to make the live shows happen in the age of the coronavirus. For now, fans will see some different episodes of the series air without the planned live shows.
A series of specials will air on Sunday nights through April 19 with repeats of other shows and news specials airing on Monday nights in place of American Idol, per Deadline.
ABC plans the following for the live shows:
“In terms of the live shows, the network is ‘monitoring’ the situation and said that it is ‘exploring multiple options within statewide guidelines.’ An ABC spokeswoman added, ‘We will share a production plan as soon as it’s in place.”

Best group of talent I have ever seen. I hope they can make this work!
This is so irritating and disappointing. They don’t need a live audience to pick a winner. Just let the judges and the TV audience decide who wins and keep broadcasting the show. the contestants don’t have to sit together or touch each other, nor do the judges. The TV ratings will be huge, with everybody at home watching.
I am hoping this will not disrupt the great talent and the contestants. They have worked so hard to make it this far! to al. Of them

They can do live shows. Just have the singers sing one by one with out studio audience. the judges an be placed in isolation rooms separate from each other. It will look wierd. But they might get the best ratings they ever had. More people will vote also. Since they have nothing else to do.
I love the live shows. I don’t think there is anyway the live shows can be done safely.
I really hope they work things out, even if that means singing to an empty auditorium. I was also hoping that maybe they good allow 2-4 of the contentest who had been sent home another try, to make it The Top 22!
I’m just devastated that Amber didn’t make it. Truly believed she had what it took to land a spot! Hope to see new episodes in the upcoming weeks!

Me too I love this show and I don’t want the Coronavirus to disturb the season. That would really stink!
OH, NO!!! Say it’s isn’t so!!! I am so invested in the show and all the contestants, I am so disappointed to think it won’t be on. I want all to be safe, yet I want the show at the same time. Darn it. Do what you need to do to keep everyone safe. You’ll air it later so I can see who made it into the top 20.
I watch every show & am enthralled. Love the raw real ness of singers plus some great talent. PLEASE continue giving young artists a venue to be heard.

I’ve been wondering how American Idol was going to continue with the live shows. I would be very disappointed to see it end early, but the best thing would be to have the contestants come back next year to finish.
Honestly I haven’t been watching.
Maybe they should just postpone for the show for now. It can always be started up again at a later date.
