Although its audience skews older and doesn’t rack up the most impressive demo ratings for CBS, the Blue Bloods TV show remains a top performer in terms of total viewership. Still, every story has its end, and as the years pass, a show’s budget naturally increases to the point where a network can’t get enough bang for its buck. Is that time at hand? Will Blue Bloods be cancelled or renewed for season nine on the Tiffany Network? Stay tuned.
A CBS family drama, Blue Bloods stars Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou, Marisa Ramirez, Sami Gayle, and Vanessa Ray. The police procedural centers on the Irish-American Reagans, a multi-generational family of cops dedicated to New York City law enforcement. New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Selleck) leads both the police force and his brood.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/12 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The seventh season of Blue Bloods averaged a 1.14 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.944 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Blue Bloods TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a ninth season on CBS?
4/18/18 update: CBS has renewed Blue Bloods for a ninth season. Details here.
(I should have reread my previous Reply because I left out the word “not” in my second sentence which should read: “I have to watch it as a replay because I am not at home at 10 PM on Fridays.”)
Blue Bloods is my favorite TV program. I have to watch it as a “replay” because I am at home at 10 PM on Fridays. Am a retired police chief and don’t believe there is a better TV program.
I hope that it stays on the air for future years.
Great show! What makes the show is not so much the plot as the charachters
Which excellently well played by the actors and actresses
I totally adore this programme. I live in South Africa and I certainly hope there are more seasons. Love the moral lessons amongst other lessons that are portrayed..keep it up
Blue Bloods is my Favorite show, V happy it’s renewed
My wife and I watch as often as possible. The great cast dynamics, balanced and realistic action scenes without gratuitous violence, varied plot and family friendly viewing are very appealing to us. One of the best action/drama TV shows to emerge in decades. I don’t watch much regular programing anymore as I consider most prime time shows either too mindless, violent or sexual in nature. This show doesn’t offend my intelligence and morals… as a matter of fact, I find it very interesting and exciting to watch and draws me in to the storyline like good programming should!
Such a great show and have watched every episode. So many moral lessons in this show that we need to be reminded of these days. Never want this show to end and will completely stop watching any CBS show if they cancel it. Love this show.
This is our favorite family show, one of the few our daughters enjoy as much as their parents! Love the way the story lines connect. Love the family values. Love all the actors and actresses! Very happy that the show has been renewed. Thanks CBS!!! Keep it on as long as you can!
I don’t watch much TV but never miss Blue bloods .I like so many things about it.The family time, the different plots that are in each hour’s show, that I don’t have to hear the 4 letter word and I am not a prude but I don’t like all the sex in many shows and glad it is not on Blue Bloods
I really liked the way the season ended and the”play up” to it, great writing.
Won’t have any programs to watch if it is cancelled.
Keep up the good work!!
We find Blue Bloods to be one of the few series on TV these days with moral characters dealing with substantive issues and enough drama to be interesting. We look forward to every episode and hope it stays on for years to come. We love it!
I hope this story continues forever….! wonderful…great following the lives of all of them….
I think the show has gone downhill. Way too much yelling at each other especially from Danny. Tone down the yelling or lose the show for next year.
Blue Bloods needs to stay on! The family dynamics are so real and America needs it. It reminds all of us that real families quarrel but no matter what….family comes first.
I do feel Linda dying was a bad idea…but I remain a loyal fan.
One of the very best series ever produced for TV. The characters are extremely well developed and the series covers important everyday aspects in all our lives. If the ratings are dropping, maybe they should allocate a little more money to advertising and re-branding. It is after all a competition between a lot of things people spend their time on.
I am sorry to see the ratings drop. We watch every week. Blue Bloods is one of our favourites for all the reasons mentioned by others.
