Who is safe from the brain-eating bugs on BrainDead? Recently, creators Robert and Michelle King spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the future of the new CBS series.
The political dramedy follows Laurel (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a young Washington DC staffer who notices something strange going on with the politicians on Capitol Hill. The cast also includes Aaron Tveit, Tony Shalhoub, and Danny Pino.
[SPOILER ALERT] After the premiere revealed that bugs were eating the brains of various politicians, Robert King told THR that at least one main character may be safe from the parasites:
Laurel is in danger of dying and not being in season two, but we would never do that to Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Some people die from it. Some people who resist, their brain explodes. Usually either your brain is weak enough that you accept it and you’re taken over, or if you resist too much — boom!”
And where exactly do these bugs come from? Winstead said that’s a mysterious the show will continue to explore:
Laurel is challenged in just about every possible way throughout the season — politically, personally, and ways beyond her comprehension. It’s plotted out in a slow burn of trying to figure out what these bugs are, where they come from, and what they do to people. There’s a lot of different conspiracy theories abound before the truth comes out.”
What do you think? Did you watch the premiere of BrainDead? Will you continue to watch the series?
I love this show! It’s great dark comedy and a blast to watch. I really hope the show is renewed and given a chance–perhaps show it at an earlier time, as we watch Braindead On Demand through Comcast. I wonder how many people record programs on their DVR or watch them later, and those programs aren’t factored in the Neilson ratings? Really, please give this show a second season. We need a laugh during such dreary times in politics.
THIS SHOW NEEDS TO BE RENEWED FOR SEASON 2!!!! ITS SO GOOD! AND TONIGHT WAS ONE OF THE BEST EPISODES EVER!
I look w this show! I hope it doesn’t get cancelled. I am sick of all the good shows getting cancelled and all the not real reality dumb stuff stays.
Just wondering why I never get calls for ratings on these shows…
Hey I think this series is HILARIOUS!! AND if you follow the politics of today, you will TOTALLY GET IT!! I look forward to the series, great idea in the CRAZY POLITICAL arena currently ongoing in the GREAT USA!! SO, hope it will continue.. PS, I am over 65, pay attention to what is REALLY going on in the political field and so my advice to the less than 49 yrs old folks, wake up and check out PBS news and other various news to get UNBIASED OPINIONS on all the candidates for the upcoming presidential election.. ALSO, BRAIN DEAD… Read more »
Linda, I am in total agreement with you. I tried to get my husband to watch it and he just doesn’t get it!
I think it’s fabulous!
I love the idea. So far, I’ve only seen the first episode; they don’t seem to be carrying it on my cable system. But, I’d like to see more to see what happens.
It certainly is not the Good Wife….I am thoroughly dissapointed, and think the show is just awful!
This is so bad – it has been years since I saw anything this awful – I could not make it through the first episode! I got the blatant *slap you in the face* joke of *what if everyone on capital hill became BRAINDEAD for some reason – and no one noticed?* That got real old, real fast! Then – get this – this piece of garbage is claimed by the writers to have a FOUR season future! It should not even get an airing of FOUR episodes it is that bad! Drop this – cancel it – do us… Read more »
Hope it gets many more viewers tomorrow night (6/26) without NBA competition. Have a serious crush on Mary Elizabeth Winstead since 10 Cloverfield Lane and I was a big fan of The Good Wife. Never realized Megan Hilty looks so much like Gretchen Carlson on Fox News until now. Keeping my fingers crossed for this series. First two eps were funny/intriguing all at once.
Love this show, funny and serious at the same time. Dam, Mary Elizabeth is smokin hot in the series! I also lived in Washington D.C. for a long time, so its always fun to see my home on TV.
Wow this show is just so awful! How did it ever get on the air?
I am ashamed that Tony Shalub is in this show!!!!! This is just awful and a waste of my time! Can’t believe they cancelled The mysteries of Laura and allowed a show like this to air!
Love the show but reviewers are like everyone else wanting more red meat politics. Cast brilliant but as Mary said, slow burn story-telling. Natural repartee and wit, as intrigue and humor surely will pick up. Highly recommend.
If the ratings don’t pick up on this show, the show shouldn’t be safe. If it ends up with worse ratings than Under The Dome had in its first season, it should be cancelled.
We would never do that to her..blah blah “lucky her”
